Skylanders Imaginators Brings Your Inventions to Life with Custom 3D Printed Skylanders

"3D printing has become a hot commodity across all types of technology. Now Portal Masters will be able to use the creation tools in Skylanders Imaginators and the Creator app to bring their imagination and digital creation to life! Your Imaginator can now be brought to life as a 3D-printed figure. While we weren’t shown the process of how you will submit your Imaginator for 3D printing, we were shown an early prototype for the physical figure.
The custom figures are developed by 3D printing company Shapeways and will come in full color, posing on a base, and enclosed in a clear protective dome. These 3D-printed models include every detail from the character you’ve made. Yes, that means your bug-faced Imaginator that carries a staff and wears banana shoes can be put into physical form and delivered to your house. The best part? These figures can be placed on a Portal of Power and used just like a real Skylanders figure you can buy at the store. The prototype I saw lacked a full coat of paint but was similar in detail and quality to the 3D-printed models Toys for Bob uses while designing Skylanders. Without a doubt, these will be true collector’s items for anyone who is passionate about Skylanders. But make sure you have created that perfect Imaginator before you have it sent off to be 3D printed. While the figure’s attributes can be changed when placed on the portal, there’s no way to alter its characteristics in the real world."
