Forums - Gaming - Software attach rate for each console?

What are the attach rates of next gen consoles and from previous generation? What about handheld? I'm just asking because I'm curious, I think I've read somewhere that they aren't too high for most consoles. I didn't find them here, does vgchartz have those numbers?

Well, the PS3 is never going to be as good as it has been for the 360 and wii...b/c many of the PS3 buyers want it for the blu ray. But thats fine, as i'm sure that some of the people originally buying the PS3 just for the blu ray will eventually buy a few games since they already have the console.

Dallas: while it's true that the PS3's attach rate is bad, it's interesting to note that poor games or games with bad reviews often do better on the PS3 than the 360. Spider Man 3 is a perfect example of this -- its PS3 attach rate was very, very good. Anecdotally, this may be because PS3 owners are so starved for good content. It seems to be having much more of a content problem than the Wii, and even more of a content problem than the 360 had.

Yeah, its fine, b/c the PS3 will eventually be sold at a price allowing Sony to break even, and the software/ blu ray DVD's will just be all gravy for them, but the attach rate will not be comparable to the other consoles until Sony pulls ahead of the other two b/c of the PS3 being a blu ray player as well.

. I'm actually a pretty big sony fanboy and think that they will eventually win it all, but I also like being realistic.

"In January, the average number of games owned by a PlayStation 3 owner was 2.7, while the average Wii owner had 2.2 games in his (or her) library. Only one month later, these numbers have jumped quite drastically to 3.4 and 3.6 respectively "

First of all, the attachment rate is the number of games purchased for every console purchased, right?

Well, if someone buys a PS3 for the blu ray, they will increase the denominator but not the numerator, thus lowering the attachment rate.  I would imagine that a fair number of PS3 owners would be doing this, seeing as how expensive blu ray players are.  Have you seen how expensive they are in the US?  Why pay $1000 for one?

Secondly, the japanese software sales will prove my point.  Look at how many more PS3's have been sold in japan, versus 360s but the 360 still sells more titles!  Also, if you really wanted to prove a point with statistics, you should try to include the attachment rates of the other consoles as well.

So the in mid-march the rates were 3.4 and 3.6 for PS3 and Wii? Overall or just north america?

Tier Ratios as of May 6th: Xbox 360: 5.676534397 Nintendo Wii: 3.867015722 (including Wii Sports) Playstation 3: 2.941072128 Historically, the 360 has always led every console month-to month by a strong margin. The 360 has never been below 3.86 attach ratio in NA/US, which was in January 2006. It's been steadily increasing since December. In Dec. it was 5.11 If you want a chart, ask me. I have a chart available for the entirety of the lifetime of the 360, Wii and PS3.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

This isn't a political arguement where you have to be 100% for whoever you support. What I try to do on this website is to objectively analyze what is going on, because even though I think that sony will win, I don't really care either way. I'm not going to be sad or whatever if sony does in fact lose.

Thanx mrstickball. I think these are NA only numbers, is that so? That means the 'real' attach rate for Wii would be about 2.8 then. Do you know any attach rates of the consoles from ps1/n64 generation on forward?
