Forums - Nintendo - What type of rpg is pokemon? Would you like a pokemon rpg in real time.

I have two threads in one. What type of rpg is pokemon? Is it a srpg?  Or is it something else?

Would you like a real time pokemon rpg? I would think it would be something new from the series. I would like it on the wii. It could be a mmo or not.

I think its time for pokemon to change its gameplay for a new one, at least for console versions, its lame to see the wii games play like the GB color ones, and the sounds that the pokemon make need to be done again.
As for the type of RPG I have no idea :)

Um none of the console pokemon games are similar to the gb games. They are totally different. Not even close. I would actually like red reamad in 3d or something for the wii.

Handheld main-series pokemon games are pretty straight-forward turn-based RPGs, with the main "side quest" being simply collecting every individual pokemon.

I  know , but is it a strategy rpg?

It's a traditional JRPG with a serious collection mixup. Nowhere near SRPGs, that's the Fire Emblem territory.

You have no idea what a sRPG is do you?  Pokemon is about as far from a sRPG as they come.

From wikipedia "The original Pokémon games were Japanese RPGs with an element of strategy" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon#Video_games

So technically it could be a different type of SRPG. It's definately not a ARPG so what else could it be? Is there another type I do not know of? You do use strategy in the game. YOu give some pokemon what type of moves based on how powerful , and how much that move has, then you choose which pokemon you want based on their type. It lvls up higher than most rpgs, and you also use items, and natures for the pokemon.

After thinking about it. I think it is a rpg genre of it's own. It's not exactly a srpg , even though it has some aspects of one, and it's not a ARPG.
