Forums - Sony - PSVR On XBox Scorpio?

We've had back and forth conversations on here on the PSVR and whether it's a 'platform' or a 'peripheral'. Just a little reading would show quite clearly they're marketing it as a 'platform' and regardless of whether you think it is or not, the fact remains that's the bottom line. We also recently heard (some of us heard it much earlier) that PSVR could eventually go to PC (hence 'Platform'). With the declining interest in Oculous and some developers dropping it because of Palmer Luckey's 'affiliation' with a certain political wing, it begs the question 'will it be a viable or worthwhile VR solution to put on the Scorpio? If it isn't, because the PSVR is a platform, I cannot see any reason why Sony wouldn't want it if MS allowed it.

The PSVR hardware won't make money... the software will, so no it's not a good idea. Unless all PSVR content had to be published through sony on other platforms, but I highly doubt that would be a viable option.

It will at some point and that's when Sony will offer it to PC.

MS solution should be to open up W10 in the Scorpio so it can support other W10 compatible VR headsets such as Vive. Wasn't PSVR attached to another small console so it could work properly on PS4... anyway, I think more options would be ideal and great marketing. Next, PSNow on Scorpio.

PlaStation VR is no different than a Sony TV. It is a consumer electonric device that is going to be improved on yearly, to continue to offer the best VR experience possible. I fully expect PSVR to be compatible with Scorpio and PC in the future. It is in Sony's best interest to offer as much value as possible from the product, while also making sure that the PSVR + PS Devices offers the best experience.

If PSVR and PS4 Pro are successful, I fully expect new PSVR units, and new PS hardware every year to continue to lead the industry. The days of PlayStation being a limited scope gaing brand are over. Sony is becoming PlayStation just like , Apple is the iProduct company. PlayStation is now competeing with PC, Consoles, Set top boxes, Cable boxes, Tablets, mobile, and VR devices. The rest of the competition puts forth improved products every year, and gives people the option to upgrade as they feel necisary. If Sony wants to compete, they have to do the same.

So, yes, PSVR will come to Scorpio, and so will PS Vue, PS Video, and PS Now. PlayStation will be everywhere, but the best experience will be had when using PlayStation consoles, with PlayStation displays, using PlayStation services.

Seems like a bad idea... in this coming gen I'm rather favoring the Scorpio over the Pro due to the superior hardware (at least it appears it will be from what little we've learned), but my one hangup is whether or not PSVR ends up looking really cool. If it does, I'll stick with the PS4 Pro.

I suppose they wouldn't have the same library... I wonder if Sony has exclusivity contracts with all those games they promised, or if they just assumed in many cases that there'd not be a competing console to port to?

Does people really believe the PSVR is costing Sony more then 300 eur to make??. If you ask me i think they are already making money off it.

Oculus is $600 and was (still is?) sold at a loss.

So yeah I don't think Sony are making a profit selling the PSVR for $399.

The is no way i believe the Rift is being sold at a loss.

Oculus CEO "To reiterate, we are not making money on Rift hardware. High end VR is expensive, but Rift is obscenely cheap for what it is."]

Not sure where you heard the Devkit models made them a profit, I highly doubt a non-consumer version sold at a lower price to shift units and increase supportwith no doubt higher manufacturing costs made a profit.

But even so (And even if i dont believe its costing anywhre near 600 to make the rift i dont buy into PR speak so easy) its like the Oculus CEO said The Rift is a premium device with higher end hardware in it then the PSVR. Do you believe Rift was selling every DK2 unit at a lose?, remember they where using the money they where making from backers buying the Devkits to fund development. How was this possible if they where bleeding money?.

That certainly wasn't the only money they had, it cost a lot more to R&D Oculus and the various versions of it then they made then, and they probably still haven't made a return to date.

And yes I believe the Devkits were sold at a loss, because it makes sense that they'd sell the non-consumer version at a lower price (which they did), and that these prototype versions subject to change would cost more to produce than the final mass produced consumer version.

It's a devkit, they need to get developers on board, they need the device to be supported well before they can release a consumer version, so they'll offer it a much lower price.

And yes I'm sure PSVR will be manufactured at a much lower price point then an Oculus Rift but the Oculus is retailing for 50% more. I don't expect the PSVR production costs to be much less than $400 at all.
