Forums - General - What is "Stealth trolling"?

^ No it isn't. If you want to assume there isn't then every post stealth trolling would just be referred to as trolling imo. They are closer to trolling than not.

It is impossible to win this argument with definitions.

The question is do people troll and try to disguise the fact that, trolling is there intention?

Answer YES

"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

I don´t know if its really real or not but I find it strange to come up with new names for trolling... sure there are shades of gray there but it doesn´t help by calling the same thing differently... eather your trollong or not... its like you want to call somebody a troll eventhough he really isn´t trolling so you call him a stealth troll... its just a cheap way of calling someone a troll without calling him a troll... it just doesn´t make very much sense for me...

It depends on the context. If you can figure out what "faintly damning praise" is then you understand. FUD is also another form of stealth trolling.

Slightly incriminating(damaging?) flattery(encouragement?)?
Is that right or is there a much more deeper meaning?

Is this an example of "faintly damning praise"?

Great to see that you still can do some good stuff..
Konnichiwa got banned for it btw.

About FUD.
I always assumed FUD is another form of propaganda.
Where a party only listens to one side of the story from a hostile(or not so friendly) source.

Kenzomatic is correct. Most trolling is blatant and could be considered flame bait. Stealth trolling is more subtle and clever. It could involve always posting articles or sales figures attacking a particular console, regularly making subtly negative comments about a user's post, etc. Things that a normal user may do occasionally but when taken together show a consistent campaign against someone or something.

@iclim4 - I'm surprised that konnichiwa got banned for posting that. Sure, that's faintly damning praise. FUD is a specialized type of propaganda.

I'm not surprised...I actually posted to that effect after the offending comment.  That one's got a bit of a trigger finger....especially when he feels even the slightest provoked or insulted.

I agree with this.

Take Twesterm and Rocketpig for example.  90% of what they say when taken individually could be seen as stealth trolling, but when you look at their posting history as a whole, you see that they're just generally negative people that tend to be overly critical towards anything and everything (something that Rocketpig is quite proud of :P).

Compare this with FishyJoe's posts (one of which is what caused this thread to be created in the first place).  He's a generally good poster, but in topics concerning the ps3 and/or Sony his posts are very negative, and it seems as if his intent is to disparage the ps3 and/or incite anger amongst it's fans.  I would consider him a good example of stealth trolling.
