Forums - Gaming - PS4 Pro’s Price Puts Microsoft In A Hole With The Scorpio

Kinda off topic: will we have another graphic for pro/scorpio sales or they'll add them to PS4/Xone's current ones?

Think they will just be added ontop of the PS4/XB1 sales.

Unless MS announces the Scorpio as the "Xbox Two" and decides to kick start a new gen, and gives it exclusives.

Otherwise its just PS4.5 & XB1.5, its all the same games, just consoles that play them at higher resolutions.

Exactly my thoughts. It's one of those rare times Pachter actually made sense..

Just my 2 Cents, but I don't really care for the price tag. The Scorpio will eat the PS4 pro alive and offer a huge leap forward.

The PS4 Pro is an upgrade Sony needed to do for their PSVR. The Scorpio is another league.
A Scorpio / Rift combo will just be overkill compared to PSVR / PS4 Pro.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Scorpio's hardware is going to end the PS4

Yeah. Just like the original Xbox did end the PS2.

Thats like saying the original PS4 is in another league than the Xbox One or Xbox One Slim.

A 40% differnce in power, and the resolution differnces.

Are you saying the same is true for the old xbox one? is it a league behinde the PS4?

The differnce between the Scorpio and the PS4 pro, will be the same % differnce as between the PS4 and Xbox One, 40 something %.

The truth is it wont be in another league.

It ll have slightly graphic edge, but cost 100-150$ more.

And it ll be up to people if that edge it has, is worth the extra costs.

Xbox Scorpio 499$  + Oculus Rift 699$ = 1200$

PS4 Pro 399$ + PSVR 399$ = 800$

Thats a 50% differnce in price, and the scorpio is still more than a year away.

its actually 3 times more powerfull not 2
4.2 tf > 1.4 tf

Why the hyperbole?  8x-10x?  Who's expecting that?  I'm guessing the PS5 will be 10-15 Tflops. That's only 2.5x-3.5x the Pro. AMD has a GPU that you can get for less than $400, now, that puts out ~9 Tflops.  By next year, it'll probably be ~$300, which is $50-$100 more than what Sony would pay for it.  Their top of the line GPU is 16+ Tflops.  Granted it's $1500, but that price will be dropping incredibly in the next 2-3 years. Of course, I doubt the PS4 will be that powerful and I have no doubt AMD is working closely with Sony on something more like the RX480, affordable out of the gate and powerful, for the PS5.

And of course the Pro isn't that big an increase.  It's aiming to be a mid-gen upgrade, not a new console.  Not only is it weaker to keep costs down, but I'm also sure Sony wants there to be an even larger difference between it and the PS5.  Of course, the PS5 will also have a much better CPU and more RAM.

Ignoring the Blatant abuse of flops... That is also highly inaccurate anyway. (Do you even know what Flops are? And how they even relate to graphics?)
If you think the PS5 at that level is going to be a significant upgrade over the PS4 Pro, then you are kidding yourself, who want's to spend another $400+ on a SUPPOSEDLY next-gen machine where the increase in graphical fidelity is marginal at best?

Also an AMD's GPU isn't representative of the chips inside the consoles, not from a cost perspective.
It's not partnered up with a CPU, it has less cache, it's memory controller isn't shared, it has it's own dedicated PCB, power delivery system, exotic cooling mechanisms, dedicated memory. etc'.

Fact of the matter is, GPU's will be stuck at 16nm/14nm for a few years, you are literally trying to argue against the laws of physics here and you will never win that argument, ever.

The Playstation 5 is not going to drop a year after Scorpio, the fabrication just isn't there yet, TSMC has even blown out it's 7nm line to 2018... And TSMC is NEVER on time with any node, so expect it to be even later than that.

Let's not forget that the PS4 was built with 28nm as it's limiter, the PS4 Pro was built at 16nm and yet there is still not a generational difference.

1440-1800p is marginal at best?

yeah next year

and the difference is gonna be like between PS4 and Xbox One as its only going to be 50% more powerfull if its aiming for 6TF

By the time the Scorpio releases, the Pro will be even cheaper, and a year later, the Pro 2, will outperform the Scorpio and will replace the original Pro as the 399$ console.

SONY has the edge this generation and they will NOT benefit from resetting the generation cycle to zero by releasing the PS5, so they will stretch it as long as they can, it's almost too convenient that MS is following suit willingly, so kiss your PS5 goodbye. It's pretty clear where console manufacturers are heading, how the market responds remains to be seen though.

I'd also say that the PS4 has put the Xbox brand as a whole in a hole, and the Scorpio will continue to occupy that hole, so not much will change.
