Forums - Microsoft - Buying an XBOX One S Thanks to Sony Event

If the rationale here is the keep the price of the console down then I'm all for it. People who want to buy a console for game considerations should be first, second, and third on the list of priorities. Movie buffs come in eleventh.

I don't really buy the 4k drive costs that much. If it did I doubt MS would've made it standard with all new Xbox units. IMO Sony is trying to push users to its Vue service but I'm not interested in stream quality.

There are many features in today's consoles that make them appealing to more than just gaming. This is a kick in the nuts to people that rely on their consoles for their all in one experiences. I know I can not go back to a console that doesn't have an HDMI in to play TV shows for me. 🙄 The next Xbox better have it or there'll be hell to pay.

Yes and it's called home video streaming.

So basically I sold my PS4 a month ago in anticipation of Neo. I'm getting a 4ktv this fall, but now that the Pro doesn't even play 4k Blurays I'm basically screwed by Sony. I'm not paying another extra 200-400 bucks for 4k BR player AND a PS4 Neo. I might as well get an XBox One S now because it's one of the cheaper 4k BR players and just game on that since I doubt the 4k games on the Pro will run that great. And no Netflix is not good enough, the whole point of getting a 4ktv is for the best image, a stream is not going to match a 4k Blu Ray. So basically I'm being forced into an Xbox. Now I'm wondering if I should just ditch the PS ecosystem entirely and just wait for Scorpio next year which is going to be more powerful. Sorry Sony but you just lost a customer.

Don't make sense to me. What about your library?

If I want watch 4k blurays on my new 4ktv and have the ps4 neo I'm looking at like 800 to 1000 bucks. Or I can play Xbox One for a year for 300 bucks and then buy a Scorpio in a year with even better specs and better 4k gaming performance. Hell I'm pretty sure I could get 100 dollars at least for my Xbox One towards a Scorpio. I don't see Scorpio being 500 dollars either. it basically just sounds like an overstocked Polaris 11 which is already cheap.

The Samsung UBD-K8500 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player is $318. You're welcome.

Nope not paying 320 US just for a player when the XBO does it for 300.

^ that was the point of my post above.

I think they had to cut the more expensive drive + chip funktion, to get that 399$ price point.

Most people where expecting the Ultra HD blu-ray player, and predicting PS4 neo would be 449$.

It came in lower in price that anyone really expected, which help offset the disappointment in the 299$ price for the slim.

The best things from this event:

HDR for all PS4 models, even the older ones which there are 43m+ of.

the 399$ price point of the PS4 neo (pro).

Im not sure this event would have been as good if the pricepoint was 449$, but it had a blu-ray player.

Great choice, enjoy your Xbox Once S! Cheapest 4k BR player on the market that (also) plays an awesome library of games.

You can always pick up another PS4 (original) later at a discounted price. That is what I am doing.

So he should pay $718 dollars plus tax?

Still a better deal to just pay $300 for One S and then buy scorpion next year.

Yup people give MS a lot of grief but for 300 dollars they are offering by far the best gaming and entertainment value on the market now. By far. They have really improved as this gen has gone on.

I dont get why people are getting pissed of from the user's choice.

The confusion in this thread stems from forumers, who are a tiny population, & are "exclusive" fans that are baffled by this decision.   Reality is, most ps/xb consumers are there to get the best 3rd party on console experience.  OP seems like a Ninty guy, that gets his 3rd party fix from MSony. hes not pretending to be a disgruntled sony fan, and now moving to the dark side lol.

http://www.vgchartz.com/platform/69/playstation-4/

Where are the exclusives on this list, closer to the top or bottom? exactly

Again - the vast majority to XB/PS users are to get the best 3rd party experience on consoles.   I have owned MS consoles for 2 gens in a row now, not out of fandom but out of necessity (thanks to Nintendo since Wii underpowered bs).  Also owned PS3 slim, because it featured blu ray (and yes obviously games, but dont really care for sony exclusives).

People need to chill on trolling accusations, everyone should know its a 3rd party driven business.  Even xb1, who is crushed by PS4, has its best selling games from 3rd parties, almighty halo is not #1 and only 2 ms exclusives from their top 10, 3 in top 20.

most PS XB owners could give a rats about exclusives and are not company fanboys,  proof is in the game sales.

The real issue is UHD blu-rays are in a vicious circle right now.

At the moment there aren't many affordable players on the market and also there's not much content avaliable either. On one hand hardware makers are waiting for more content before giving players a big marketing push. On the other hand movie companies aren't relesing much content because, without many affordable players, the market potential is quite low.

The PS4 Pro had the potential to break that circle and render UHD discs a viable format in many houses. This is what the PS3 did for blu-rays and PS2 did for DVDs even earlier. Those consoles provided the opportunity for a wider content market, thus inderectly helping hi-end customers and movie enthusiasts as well.

The reason why this omission is a real letdown is becasue  it lowers the possibility for the establishment of a 4K physical media market. It may be a non issue for many but, just like for gaming, a lot a people prefers pysical media over digital downloads or streaming.

People on both sides trying to turn this into just another fanboy war are being silly.
