Uh........because I was the first person in this thread who actually found the information the OP asked for, and because there is absolutely nothing wrong with criticizing Sony's decision to price the 40gb at $US250 more in Australia than it is in the USA!

 On Topic: JB hi-fi are usually you're best bet to get the best deal..  Also i saw a pretty good uncharted bundle in EB (but we all know EB are plain evil)

 Or you could just do what i do and hope that it eventually hits the $400 sweet point that ive set myself :)

I agree that JB is generally a good choice, though Harvey Norman occassionally do awesome bundle deals (their normal prices are mediocre though).

I'm waiting for a $550 PS3 with BC and rumble, then I'll jump in. 

I doubt we'll ever see the PS3 for $550, no matter how well our dollar compares to the US dollar. That said, if I ever saw that deal, I'd be on it so fast...

We Australians need to stick together, the minute I spot a great deal, I'll let you know.

I reckon the next PS3 price drop in Australia will bring the price down to sub-$600, and that price cut will come this year sometime. Sony must be making an enormous profit off every machine sold in our territory.

But seriously LG, just get a 360. You can get a core for under $400:)

Big W seemed pretty good last time i looked.
Most console FPS games are worthless at least the Ps3 doubles as a good DVD/media and blu-ray player.
If you want a decent FPS get a PC or a Wii they are both better than any PS3 or X360 FPS games with the exception of PS3-UT3 since it also allows you to use a mouse like a PC.

the best deal you can get is to import one from Japan or USA.

Yeah, for under $400 you get a console which displays red rings. No HDD, no BRD, and no possiblity of playing the games you've already explained you want to buy your PS3 for....
