Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Slim is 40% smaller

Well I said that PS4 is small compared to XB1, but I don't think PS4 is very small, Wii is what I think is very small (Vita is handheld not home console).

And I'm saying: Yeah. Wii's size is also impressive but it's silly to compare it with PS4/XB1. It has 61 gigaflops for crying out loud (PS4 has 1840 gigaflops).

"I don't think Wii is very small, PS2 Slim is what I think is very small." You see how silly that comparison is?

Since the Vita was brought up only to be dismissed, now I'm curious as to which has more processing power: the Wii or the Vita?

My guess would be the Vita.

I get what both of you are saying. You're trying to say it's small when you consider the tech it packs. While Miyamotoo is saying Wii (Wii U even) is small without looking at the tech but purely on size. Wii definitely was a small console at launch before any revisions but was technically weak to allow them to do that.

With the PS4, Sony flexed it's muscle. It's more powerful than the Xbox One but still launched a lot smaller. Even MS' second attempt 3 years later couldn't match the PS4's launch size.

To be fair you would have to compare the Vita with the Wii U. The Wii with the PSP. Nintendo should win both.

Here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units#Comparison_table:_Console_GPUs

Supposedly the Wii had 14.1 Gflops for its GPU.

I dont have any solid numbers for the Vita, but heard people say around ~15 for the gpu.

Wii U is at 176 Gflops, so it was actually a big step up from the Wii.

Crazy to think that the PS4 has 10,5 times the power of the Wii U's GPU, probably more if you factor in the tech is newer and flops arnt just flops.

So, PS4 Slim is smaller than OG PS2, buy your point PS4 need to be much bigger than OG PS2 because has much more power!? That doesn't make any sense.

And I didn't talk at all about power, I talk just about size, regardles PS4 power I dont think PS4 is "very small".

PS2 Slim is final version of console with longest life on market (around 12 years), not exactly good comparison with first revision of Wii.

I am more interested in the internal hardware changes, than the unit size.
+/- 50% in physical size, does not make a difference, when the thing is standing next to my TV.

Bold: The final revision of PS2 (PS2 Slim that launched 4 years after the original) is smaller than the final revision of Wii (Wii Mini that launched 6 years after the original). But this is not even relevant to my point. It was just an example of how silly it is to compare sizes of consoles that are so different. It's like saying "PSTV isn't small. Just look at my Tamagotchi." (no that's not a reference to my dick)

Regarding the rest: What?

Here. See SWORDF1SH's post. He's better at explaining my point than I am

Note: The sizes I gave for depth are not the overal depth. Because of the shape the PS4 sticks out 30mm more and the Slim 22mm more. However using the dimensions for the top side with console height gives us the volume because the front and back of the console slant at the same angle.

So revision of PS2 is smaller than OG Wii, so what!? PS4 Slim is smaller than OG PS2.

Like I wrote, I didn't talk at all about power, I talk just about size, regardles PS4 power I dont think PS4 is "very small". Yes PS4 is lotsa smaller than OG XB1 even it has stronger hardware and integral power, but again I dont consider PS4 "very small" despite power, for me Wii is very small power a side.

They should make a console out of tiny cameras and screens so that it can disappear giving the appearance of more room on the entertainment shelf.

Finding the power button might prove problematic.
