Forums - Gaming - A new indie game console has surfaced, and it makes its own games.

That title is not a typo or anything. This new console, officially titled the OTON X, uses a custom AI in order to build new games entirely on its own. If you're interested at all, or want the full story before reading on, here is the link to the Kickstarter page.

The concept for the console is simple, instead of buying new games and shelling out hundreds of dollars, this new console creates its own games, and game levels, from scratch without any input from the user. Any game it creates can be saved or deleted and costs nothing beyond the price of the console itself. The creators as of now claim to have spent the past 3 years working to create this new indie console as an alternative to mainstream consoles. The OTON runs off of a custom Linux operating system, opposed to an android sysem as other indie consoles have done. The company hopes to one day be a major console developer that can compete with the big 3.

So far here are all the detals I could uncover on this new console:

- $279 price tag, although actual Kickstarter tiers only include the console starting at the $300 tier and is listed as an "EARLYBIRD" tier

- can create new games and new game levels instantly, at any time, for free. can even create games based off of user preferences.

- claims to have "unlimited storage", will actually sport a 128 GB harddrive and use cloud storage that the devs promise will be unlimited

- currently only creates platformers, but they ope to expand that once more funding is available to them, including 3D game engines

- the specs the ylisted are a bit sketchy, but from hat I can tell, it has a Quad core CPU, and 8 GB of RAM. not much but i cant bother to decode the mess of specs they mashed together

- 1st party games complete with online leaderboards

- the console will play in 4K

now lets be honest here, I dont know what to think of this thing, but it does interest me. its a unique concept that has never been done on this scale. that being said, i see this thing being doomed to the same fate as all the android consoles before it. i certainly dont see it being one of the big 3. but i want to know what some of you guys think about it. are you yay or nay on this new console idea?

The Ouya had a better chance

I would rather buy the Windows 10 "gaming" handheld than this

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

So...procedurally generated games? I'm sure that leads to tasteless games with generic visuals and gameplay aspects. Who'd want that? Not even children with no necks would want that one.

It does sound interesting. I would like to see what kind of games this thing could make. I dunno how a machine can just make its own game, considering things like characters, story, sound, level design. Some sample would be cool.

I have no words how terrible I think this is and the "overcooked" Kickstarter page only makes it worse. Made of fail.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

Skynet could be even uglier than we imagined.

Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly! (Pontius Pilate, "Life of Brian")

TGS, Third Grade Shooter: brand new genre invented by Kevin Butler exclusively for Natal WiiToo Kinect. PEW! PEW-PEW-PEW!

Wow! Infinite bland games with always the same few assets, crappy level design, crappy balancing and no story at all. Where is my credit card?

It is just an algorithm that teaches itself.

Sound interesting but I don't see myself (or a lot of people) buying it
