It had the olympics basically hogging all the limelight for two weeks and just weeks ago, a shooter killed innocent people in germany. Do you think Gamescom had it bad this year? Should it have been delayed for atleast a week? The spacing last 2012 from London Olympics was atleast acceptable than this year, IMO.

Doesn't matter if media coverage is slimmer and the tickets sold are lesser.

Pretty much this, especially when many games are being demoed on VR hardware this year (since VR doesn't advertise well, they're hoping for word of mouth to push it).
