Forums - Gaming - Was there a game you REALLY had to give up on?

There is a whole sub-genre actually. Hunting games. Tried monster hunter, god eater, soul sacrifice, toukiden, freedom wars, ragnarok odyssey ace... the last one was the only one i finished. It's not difficulty or anything. It's that they are so repetitve and grindy it bores me to no end and doesn't justify the time investment. I really tried to like them but now i am convinced that there is simply something broken on eastern cultures. I just can't have fun with these things for long. Grinding isnt fun!!

Oh, I also gave up on TLoU: extremely slow, repetitive, boring, linear, with almost no posibility of exploration or backtraking... I constantly felt like being pushed to advance through decadent corridors where all you could do was... keep going forward. I decided to quit after two or three moments in which I know I had left an unexplored room or path behind me but couldn't get back to them because the developers decided to make a wall crumble and limit my access to that previous area. Completely dissapointing.

Destiny. It had solid combat and level design, but the MMO elements made the constant grind for better gear tedious and boring. It honestly should not have had any MMO elements and been a more conventional solo/co-op experience with a definite beginning, middle, and end, perhaps a quasi-open world game.

I really liked the idea that while you are playing, other people are there too doing their thing yet for some reason they shoved in the idea of making friends and joining people to do things. The grind was a joke and I never did a raid as I never had enough friends to do it and didn't want to join randoms. I gave up for those reasons.

I gave up on Star Ocean 4 as the voice acting hurt my hearing. There are probably others but generally I try to finish games.

Xbox 360 version?

The only game I had to give up playing was Final Fantasy 13. The pain became too unbearable to continue. My friend had to finish it for me.

good choice. I beat every main FF game up to 10 but 13 really killed my enthusiasm for the series. I look at FFXV cross ways because of XIII.

FF13 kind of ruined the good image I once had of SE. I don't really trust them anymore.

PS3, I think I got to the earth military base in the past and couldn't handle the bad acting anymore and just stopped playing.

Hmm, pie.

Oh sure. As far as pure difficulty goes, I gave up on Killzone 3 on hard difficulty due to an insane on-rails segment about 70% into the game. I was loving the game prior to that, but it was so bad that I was able to make the decision to bail in about 10-15 minutes.

Maybe not during the game, but you know you had the option of choosing Japanese or English, right?

Not that I think of. If a game proved to be too punishing, I just had to put my "I will reach the top whether I like it or not" mentality and I overcome basically anything.

Is this the polite way of saying to "git gud" :p

Not really. I can understand people struggling, just like I struggle with some different areas of my life than hobbies. I'm just saying that there hasn't been a game I haven't been able to overcome yet, mostly because if it proved to be really hard I just set that mentality and eventually completed it.
