8 is really decent and adds motion control which is very fun in most cases. Some of the minigames burn me but they are usually the ones that rely solely on luck to play.

I haven't played a Mario Party after 4 .Try wario ware: smooth moves great fun easy competitive game.

I am waitin for Mario Party 9. I'm a fan of the Mario Party games, but I know 9 will work out any kinks that were found in 8. I agree with brawl4life...If you haven't tried Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, give it a shot.

8 is a lot of fun. And while it may not have set itself apart substantially from it's predecessors in some ways, the simple fact that it uses Wii motion really does change it up. I don't know if I'd really want to go back to mashing A and B repeatedly for most of the minis.
I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

My favorite was 6, but I don't know a lot of people who agree.
MP8 was pretty fun, but I would wait for a price drop or something.
My favorite is MP4, for me is the best in the series, and I never played MP8, but I heard is good.
The only ones I've played heavily are MP1 and MP8. MP1 is far superior, imo, because it actually takes some skill to win. MP8 is entirely random, and you don't even have a general idea of who won the game until it's announced at the end.
The first time I played MP8, I was doing horrible. I had no coins and I was coming in last in all the mini-games. I placed first in the end. The second game I played I was doing great and owning everybody, but ended up third. The results have been sporadic like that every time I've played.
ive only played mp3 and mp8 3 is better my opinion

You most likely had bonus stars on. At the end, 3 bonus stars are awarded: 1 for most coins held at any one time, 1 for most coins collected during the minigames, and 1 for landing on "!" spots the most times (I think these are the 3). That's why you probbaly won the 1st time, and lost the 2nd time. You can turn this option off.

Actually there are more than just those 3 but only 3 are selected. Some include who used the most items, landed on the most red spaces, etc...
As for being random, only 1 or two mini-games are actually random.
