The iFixIt teardown suggested Microsoft saved $7 by moving the power brick inside the case. Given iFixIt estimated the SoC's cost at $99, saving $7 on the power system is actually very significant! They will get savings in the SoC and the RAM almost automatically over time, but costs for things like the power system tend to be fixed so any systemic savings there will be potentially more significant.

It costs them 24$ more to make the Xbox One slim, than the older Xbox One though.
That said its a much better looking machine than the older models.
