Forums - Gaming - HD Retrovision Cables for Classic Consoles

Not sure if any of you followed the Kickstarter for the HD Retrovision cables for the SNES and Genesis, but they shipped out a few weeks ago and I've been basking in their warm glow. They provide a component connection for those two classic systems, replacing the fuzzy mess that is composite (yellow, red, white) video.

I wasn't able to get the SNES cable - it sold out in less than a minute) - but I did manage to snag a cable one for my Model 1 Genesis... I'm just going to say that the PQ is stunning. My wife noticed the difference as soon as she walked in after work; I hadn't even told her that the cables had arrived.

I've been building up material for a new YouTube channel and the quality of these bad boys inspired me to launch a little early with a preview video. Check 'em out, and make sure to adjust the video to 1080p Fullscreen:

Does it eliminate the apparent lag seen while using consoles like a SNES on hdtv? If not, doesnt do me much good.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

Unfortunately not. Unless your TV is better at converting 240p over component than composite (a possibility). Have you tried shuffling through the settings to see if it has a "Game Mode"?

A lot of times, the lag is caused by the extra processing newer sets like to put their video through. This isn't a problem for movies - for games, though...

Meh. I say, go buy a good CRT for 40 bucks at a goodwill and be done with it. That's what I did (it's in my profile pic).

That's a pretty popular way to use these cables. The guys at "My Life in Gaming" are using them almost exclusively on PVMs and prosumer tubes. They add some very noticeable clarity to CRTs.
