Forums - Gaming - Has anybody's gaming habits changed with their age?

I used to love playing long games like RPG's but now I don't have the time and energy to play those anymore. One RPG game usually takes me months to finish and over such a long period of time, I lose interest and it get's boring. Nowadays, I prefer multiplayer games or short single player games.

Less playing the older I get.

Yes, they have. All that i care about is a good single player story mode. I have no fun playing multiplayer aspects of games. It probably has to due with being almost 40, and obviously my reaction times. aren't what they once were.

My gaming habits have changed considerably as I have aged. I'm 52 years old now and find myself enjoying the crap out of games that are supposed to be for kids, like the Skylanders games. Here is proof.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

No, unsurprisingly I still enjoy the same type of games I did 20 years ago. Only thing that changed is that I enjoy even more genres now.

We have less free time but that's to be expected.

Yes. Now I keep only PS4 exclusives as part of my physical game collection. My negative view about PC gaming has reduced.
In past I used to play games with high volume. Now I plug iphone EarPods in dual shock 4 and play it.

There's ebbs and flows in my gaming yet overall it has been getting less since I have kids.
As a teenager I played everything I could get my hands on, mostly pirated on c64, Amiga 500, pc
In my 20's I was all about PC gaming, Adventure games, FPS, RTS, Sims, MMORPGs.
In my 30's console gaming started to take over, RPGs, Action adventures and Racing became my most played genres. I lost interest in RTS and competitive FPS. No more time for mmorpgs.
In my 40's so far it's just been getting less. Might change when winter comes around again.

Nope. Still enjoy kiddie Nintendo games and overall childish looking games, while still not being that interested in today's modern realistic, mature games.... Though, where do horror games fit in? I just have weird taste.

When I was younger, I used to play a wide variety of games. FPS, RPG, Adventure, Platforming, etc.

Now that I'm older, I play games like Bingo, Slot Machines, Napping before the Sun goes down, and Watching how long it takes for my cat to get bored of a piece of string.

I like to think...I've matured...

When I was a kid I mostly played on Nintendo platforms and a few PS1 games, I soon got into MMOs which ate a lot of my time in my mid teens. After that my range expanded and I played a little bit of everything especially multiplayer shooters. I also played a ton of retro games back during the mid-later half of the 7th gen.

In recent years I've started to narrow my scope again to RPGs, Metroidvanias, action platformers, FPS/TPS (including games like MGS), adventure-puzzle and niche Japanese stuff. I also like to collect trophies now, didn't care too much about them in the past.
