First party games matter. Third party games matter. All games matter as long as they are good.

First party games alone aren't worth investing in a console for, except a few like God of War and Infamous because their are relatively few of them and third party adds to it and gives you more choice.

Exclusives matter.

Persona 5 is more important to me than Uncharted 4.

^ this.

Persona 5 has more draw, to me than UC4 or TLG does.

Exclusives (first party or not) matter.

Yes, but there's a difference between Nintendo and Sony. They lack the kinds of games Nintendo has, but attract the kinds of games Nintendo needs.

What does that have to do with Nintendo? I'm speaking in general.

Games matter, whether 1st, 2nd or 3rd, haha. If you have a lot of great games of all kinds, then you have a good system. You can see why the PS4 is doing sell well, haha.

I tend to value 1st party output more than 3rd, especially since 3rd party optimization and utilization of unique system features is often compromised due to their multiplat nature.

Nintendo has plenty of first-party games that are attractive to gamers, but Sony doesn't have as many. Sony however is great with third parties, so Nintendo should be more like Sony to get more third party support.

That has nothing to do with what I said.

The biggest franchises used to be exclusive. Now they are multi platform apart from a few titles.

GTA etc going multi platform was the tipping point.

*In more recent times.

GTA was always multiplatform except for the GBA game.

Not on consoles it wasn't.

And I more mean the 3D ones (I.e when the franchise became big). GTA 4 was the first one with  a simultaneous multi platform release. PlayStation was usually the debut format.

It was a huge boon for the 360 on its pre launch E3. Hence this:

GTA4 was not expected to hit 360 day and date. It was always expected to initially be PS3 exclusive.

Simultaneous release is different, but it always was on multiple platforms. The PC and Xbox versions of the games were actually better than the PS2 versions.

It was more about its perception as being related to PlayStation due to the earlier release of the PS2 versions of the game. And Chinatown Wars, though not really related here, was released on PSP later than it was on DS. EFLC was released on 360 before PC and PS3. Rockstar went wherever the money was. And in sixth gen it was on PS2.
