Forums - Gaming - Sony: Xbox/Windows 10 Unification Won't Affect Our Strategy

Microsoft hasn't been very friendly with multiplayer.

You can look at FF14 as an example. SE offered it to them, and MS said no.

Prior to this and back in 2013, the game’s director Naoki Yoshida stated that one of the reasons why the game was missing was because the Xbox One platform did not allow for cross-platform play

When asked why FF14 (a realm reborn) wasn't on Xbox one spencer said

"It’s business. As I’ve grow in this role, and I’ve tried to learn the third-party exclusivity thing – and you see us doing less of it now – [I’ve found] it’s not something I’m a huge fan of.”"

So basically Microsoft said no - then later tried to imply that the reason FF14 wasn't on Xbox one is because Sony bought exclusivity to it.

This thread is killing me.  It's been long known that Sony was open to cross-platform play while Microsoft was not but people are just ignoring that for some unknown reason.

It's the entire reason War Thunder was only on PC and PS4 but not Xbox One.  "Microsoft is not allowing cross-play completely; which means [War Thunder] cannot be on Xbox One," Yudintsev told GameSpot at GDC last week in San Francisco.

People will flip flop as soon as they see a chance.
Spin Spencer has been quite fond of it and is making a good bunch of people do it together with him.

As I said in the thread when I posted that, it's a deliberate move to try and paint Sony as the bad guy. Here we are months and months later and the FUD clearly worked.

The PS5 Exists.

"We believe that shutting out as many consumers as possible is by far the better strategy than being boring and inclusive like Microsoft. Trust us, we're Sony and we know how to not lose money!"

For real. Microsoft increasing their install base means they can invest more money into xbox. They arleady bought two huge multi billion dollar ips this generation. They can buy more as time goes by.

However that strategy will only work if they put all the stuff in their own store also on Steam. If not they're not better than Sony.

"We once refused to be inclusive because we wanted to be exclusive, and it backfired on us, then we realized we can't actually compete toe on toe in the same ground as our competitor and we decided to open up to seek another routes and now are trying to paint our competitor with what we have been refusing while we still thought we could directly compete and dominate them, as we don't want that anymore as we can't achieve it we now will try to bring them to our fighting ground so we can actually finally try to fight, and make our aim at spinning what we once did to blame them if they don't come. We believe forcing as many consumers as possible to what we want is very inclusive and respectful, trust us, we are Microsoft and we know how to use our infinite money to try to force others to what we want"

Trying to justify your own actions by a competitor's past is so average. MS uses money to force people on their platform(that most are already on anyway) while Sony is using nostalgia to force people on their platform.

Let's face it, people who control their own platform will never have the consumer's interest in mind. What we should do is supporting awesome publishers like Square Enix who are able to free themselves from the console shackles more and more.

Which ips are those?

It will only affect them if MS starts to win by doing it. The same goes for Microsoft. Look at their strategy at the start of this generation. It was totally different. Now that Sony kicked them in the nuts, bam, totally new strategy.

The only company that really just does whatever the hell they want regardless is Nintendo.

Oh, forgot Playstation Vita

Your not the only one who forgot it XD

And yeah. They are really compacting everything in this generation. They see they got the advantage and now they are using it to get more.

Pocky Lover Boy!

Nothing that MS is doing this gen, seems to be helping their sales, as much as they hope that it would. Imo, they're still feeling the effects, of the horrible system launch, with the DRM policy and all of that good stuff. I would like them to gain a little ground, for those of you that like the Xbox brand, . I for one, have never been completely sold on the brand. I had the original Xbox and rarely played it, outside of Star Wars KOTOR, Halo, and a few other games. Sony has always been the better system for my gaming needs, as i pretty much only play games on my PS consoles, don't really care about what else my console can do, outside of that. Outside of playing games, i occasionally use Amazon Prime on my PS4, that's about it. I have always felt that Sony also has a better and more broad array of games to play, as well.

I don't care about console unification personally, as i rarely ever play games online. I can see how it'd benefit some gamers, but it'd also take away the need for somebody to buy the other console, which is just a bad sales strategy, imo. MS needs to figure out what their customers want the most out of their system, and make it so. They need to get the rest of the world to trust their brand, or nothing is going to change. BC isn't giving them the sales boost, that they hoped for. Not as many people care about Windows 10, as they hoped, either. Sony seems to be succeeding at giving their customers what they want, as their customer base just keeps growing, at a healthy rate. They really don't need to change anything with their current strategy, imo.
