Forums - Gaming - Forget 4k !!Neo and Scorpio devs should aim for 1080 60fps with crazy bells and whistles

Would you prefer 1080/60fps with crazier effects or 4k/30fps

Wrong. The prices are coming down pretty quickly, so I guarantee you that mass adoption will be there. We're already getting to the point where 4k is a plausible choice, and it will be even more so in the not-so-distant future.

the issue is interest  , i am just not seeing as much interest in 4k as the era of HD gaming , remember HDtvs were also super slim and attractive and tvs were more in vogue from 04-10 than from 2015 till now

i think the average consumer would have jumped on the HD way quicker than the 4k

i do think that 4k would be pretty mainstream by 2021 to 2022 though

plus 4.5tf and 6tf in 2016/17 wont be enough for 4k 30fps gaming imo

Teraflops doesn't determine the resolution a game will run it, never has, never will.

Either console will be able to pull off 4k30fps medium/high settings in 2016/7. PC GPU's can do it and they don't have the benefit of console optimisation.

Bold statement considering these devices aren't on the market and we have no idea what developers will be targeting. (It is all up to the devs, remember.)

Probably will, Scorpio isn't strong enough for native 4K. It doesn't even have a Intel CPU.

CPU is ultimately irrellevent. At 4k with all the bells and whistles you would be GPU bound, not CPU bound. (Coming from someone who games at 2560x1440, 5760x1080 and 7680x1440.)
Not only that, the amount of CPU resources is a fixed and known quantitiy on console, so developers can work within those confined walls.

The Scorpio is a $800 PC or at the least next gen. So the comparison to Neo is invalid.

No price has been given out thus far.
14nm has allowed for some significant price/performance jump over the archaic 28nm designs featured in the Xbox One and Playstation 4.

It's also not next-gen in terms of performance, more like half a gen.

Agreed. Even on PC gaming 4K is not even close from being a standard.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

I think this is what they are going to do. I doubt we will be seeing native 4k games from any of them. Neo can pretty much run games at ultra settings, and natively at 1440p then upscale and output at 4k. If they take that approach MS would do the same, cause if MS just went for 4k native then it wont be able to run the game at ultra settings.

4k native just sounds like a ridiculous waste of resources to me.

Neo is only a overclock CPU with the added features of HDMI 2.0 for 4K streaming and a Ultra HD Blu-ray player for 4K playback. No 4K gaming.

Do you consider Neo half gen or new SKU

Errr.... and an entirely new GPU which is much more powerful but ok.

LOL, then get the population percentage of the US or whatever country and then work the percentage of gamers. Also acording to Statista less than 50m 4K TV's shipped worldwide. Lastly less than 1% of PC gamers have 4K, according to steam, barely anyone uses 4K for gaming.

4K is pointless until 2019 onwards, and that's just an estimate.

Fully agree! I dont give a f*** about 4k, I just want 60fps

Great idea OP, use that power for making games look truly glorious at 1080p, if frame rate is already locked solid at 30/60fps then use the power for AA, AA everywhere! makes everything look better.
