You could have at least linked the VGC article rather than some inferior forum.

Here it is by the way, http://www.vgchartz.com/article/264742/gamestop-nintendo-nx-will-have-physical-media/

we have a news section??

OT - i'll file this in the no shit sherlock.  the digital only rumors were dumb.  now cartrigues are intriguing.  i think that will cost nintendo third parties AAA console games but we'll see.

Heh, Spemanig already reacting.Ohhhhh the next months will be so enjoyable.

To the point at hand, as Spemanig pointed, its not a confirmation(supposing that it is the full statement). But for Gamestop go out of their way to say that, rather than say " we dont know, but if it has we will be there" points more and more to the NX having (obviously) physical media.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Long live the king!

Interesting. I mean physical media was a given, but the cartridge hint is interesting. Not sure Gamestop would already know such a thing already, but many of us already had the idea at least.

If it's true. Carts...Breath of the Wild...what's going on here Nintendo? Are we finally going to get that Nintendo console with no moving parts and 64GB carts with 1TB-2TB internal flash storage? I'm just dreaming but if Nintendo does take out the BD drive, that's development cost that goes towards internal storage and increasing specs which would contribute to a very affordable console. Drop that 180 buck game-pad for a decent 20$ controller and Nintendo could easily ride up with a cheap and relatively powerful console. Add in shared libraries between the home console and possible handheld...Nintendo would be in a realm of their own.

But the handheld aspect probably isn't even a thing. Still, can't wait for NX to be revealed.

Hi, guys, this is Ray Stochel on for Dave. Good afternoon. What level of insight can you share on rumors the new Nintendo console is shifting from disc-based games to cartridges? And if you can't specifically comment on that, can you discuss any historical economic differences between cartridges and discs for the pre-owned business?

Paul Raines, GameStop Corporation - CEO [39]

We saw those rumors, and so obviously we can't comment on them. I don't think we know anything about it anyway.

But certainly for us, physical media is a good thing, right? As far as the historical, guys, anybody have any thoughts on that?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rob Lloyd, GameStop Corporation - CFO [40]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't remember anything distinctly different between economics of pre-owned whether or not it was disc or cartridge based. Mike, do you?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike Mauler, GameStop Corp - President of International [41]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only difference would be on the refurbishment and pre-owned side. And actually, cartridges are much simpler to refurbish and repackage. So there is somewhat a little bit of an advantage if it went in that direction on used.

But it is early, guys, and we have got to all keep cool heads. Certainly I would say that the fact that there are rumors of that type just confirms for you that this is an important console for next year. It will have physical media, we will play a role in it, our pre-owned business will also play a role. So we're excited about that.

And of course we love Nintendo IP. So it's all good news.

That's the actual transcript. He's speculating. He doesn't know if it has carts and he doesn't know if it has physical media. None of them do. Nothing to see here.

Did you skip over this little bit where he says it "WILL HAVE" physical media? Not it "COULD" have, not it "MAY" have, but it "WILL HAVE". That to me seems pretty definite, and I think they know more, but cannot comment more than anything else.

I would be surprised if Gamestop even has any information on the NX's details and formats at this point. They're simply a retailer, its not as if they do much beyond put things on their shelves.

I do think we should hope that it does indeed being something like flashdrives for physical media, sorta ala the chips that you see on the 3DS games. Flashdrives are actually quite cheap at this point, even in very large GB sizes.

but more importantly a flashdrive/chip sort of media would most likely mean a combined library for some sort of NX home console or handheld (or even that the system itself was a combination of both with some sort of controller that doubled as a handheld)

Why is no one asking the important question!!!

Will we have to blow in the cartridges?

Please yes.

Would make sense if it was a fusion, though there should be discs as well
