a more explicit warning would have been good.

also, you use your production server for testing and development? Where are your test and development environments? I want my six sigma availability, as agreed in our SLA!

so you actually need at least 3 servers, with the test server acting as a back-up server...

There is a server for production, and you mention need for second for development/back-up... how does that add up to 3?

that would be the test environment. isnt that usual as well?

Generally, testing server is the same as development server, so that is still only 2. Obviously not always the case if you can do extensive load testing, and have multiple developers, etc... but with only 1 developer (ioi), the testing server is rarely different than development server. (Although there may be a separate development workstation).

I'm a database guardian, I have to criticize.

If you don't like it, take your issue up with the database. He'll be interested to hear it.

That reminds me of the guard from Diablo 2 that said, yes, that "You shall not pass."

man its been to long on that game...i should get a copy again

Good, this thread is officially off topic and dead. Nice job.

Ioi and talonman - I really enjoy the new game pages loading time. I really like how the graphs are not cluttering the page(and slowing it down). I also think the number system implimented already does a good job of replacing the bar chart.

I can't wait to see the final setup.

Oh and comments going last to first was a great improvement.

Wait

1. Nobody was asked to leave. I merely asked why continue to frequent a site when you obviously hate every improvement that is made to it? Suggesting that maybe you are just one of these people who dislike change / moan for the sake of moaning. I never asked anybody to leave.

2. My comment towards Faxanadu was based on months of similar comments he has made - he didn't like the user profile redesign, the new layout / colour schemes etc etc etc. Every change we make he moans and "total fail" is not constructive criticism!!!

3. Constructive comments are welcome and to those who had made some my reply was "it is not finished yet". The graph will be back, but smaller and taking less time to load, the total sales will be at the top of the info box nice and large, there will be screenshots, "people who own this game", user reviews, faqs, videos and loads of other stuff down the left hand side of the profile. IT IS NOT COMPLETE YET.

4. The reason for putting up an incomplete page is that because of how the database / php pages are coded this is the only way I can do it. Otherwise I will be changing things in the background (like a fixed list of publishers, cross-linking between release dates and game entries, merging games etc) and it will all be ruined by people changing stuff. This is an intermediate step that saves me having to first update the old page whilst also giving you a taster of the new layout.

Constructive comments are always good, but 40 posts of "my god there is a big space on the left side and where have the graphs gone" when I have already explained previously that it is work in progress is not really of any help. Also to those suprised at the removal of backgrounds / colours - this is something that has been discussed and planned for a long time now!

Please keep the (constructive) comments coming, but give me chance to finish it first!!

I'm just going to quote this every time someone brings any "it doesn't look right" comments up. I went to see what the whole fuss is about, and yes, the alignments are off, the graph is missing, etc, etc. But then you come in and say simply that it's not finished yet, and also has to do with the fact you don't want people updating games in the middle of this update, and it'll be better in the next few days, but it seems nobody even bothers to read your post.

I usually use the game pages for sales and then like to go over to the dedicated games comparison graphs to look at the sales there, so whether the graph makes it way back into the actual game page doesn't matter to me. Course I've noticed a few games don't link right to the game sales graph. For a few weeks now I've run into games that give me "Link not found" or some other sort of error, and today when I was looking at Ratchet sales (Tools of Destruction in particular), it took me to the sales graphs, but entered the games name in wrong (only used Ratchet and not the rest of the name), so the graph didn't appear right. I'm sure the second one is simply a cause of the updates, but I hope the first bug is fixed as well.

And as always, keep up the good work.

And I do love me some Gandalf and Lord of the Rings. lol. My precious.
