Forums - Gaming - Opinions on Neo Vs Scorpio? Surely, MS can't meet tech costs by next year for 4k and VR support....

Best tech Vs cost is....

Scorpio with Oculous. 18 26.87%

Neo with PSVR. 35 52.24%

Vive + PC. 7 10.45%

Oculous + PC 1 1.49%

Other.... 6 8.96%

Total:67

As far as things go neither will be doing native 4k gaming, both current systems just about manage 1080p and sometimes 60fps, hell X1 at times gets 900p for some and then of course we have slowdowns for a few games, imagine what native 4k gaming would do to those systems?.

I think you're right but the expectation has been set with Spencer's comments on Scorpio being designed for people with 4 k tvs.

I find it weird how he thinks we'll be doing 4k gaming on the system with a 4k tv without any issues, for 4k media sure that goes without saying with what is coming out on the market for 4k media but for 4k gaming, that's a different package entirely.

MS has the deepest pockets of the big 3 so if someone can is them.

I agree but he has set the expectations for it with his comments.

“Scorpio is for the person who's got a 4K television, who's really focused on 4K gaming. It's going to be a premium price over what we're selling this one for, and both of them will exist in the market at the same time. Scorpio is for your 4K gamer. And that's what we designed it for.”

He's going to end up in for a long haul when the perf results don't hold up across the board.

Scorpio wont be cheap, atleast 100$-150$ more than the Neo.
I wouldnt be surprised if its a 549$ console.

Doubt it ll do VR at 4k.
Most games probably wont run at 4k native resolution either.

there's no VR @ 4k, I think he meant VR and 4k seperately

anyway, there's a year and half before the OP will need to consider this. by then we will have specs for all the machines, so just sit back and enjoy the rest of the games coming out :)

Guys, the GPU Scorpio is bound to have is $199 at retail now!! In 18 months it's going to be dirst cheap for MS buying in bulk. Mark my words, they saw with Xbone that $499 is too much and they'll easily hit $399.
8 Core Zen processor, probably the full version of Polaris 10 (with 40 CUs and 2560 SPs), aroung 12 GB of RAM - all forming a perfect APU and boom. You have a monster for $399. Maximum $449.

Topping 6tflops in a console is expected to require a Vega gpu (why it's still so far out), not Polaris and not the 480, whatever it's capable of with a good desktop setup. Pairing that with a Zen cpu would be seriously costly and they would have bragged about it too if they were using it. Really doubt we'll see it debut at $450 or lower unless they want to eat a big loss.

Why? RX 480 sits at aroung 5.5 - 5.6 tflops, the full chip with 40 CUs and 2560 SPs (RX 480 has 36 and 2304) should hit 6 tflops nicely without the need of Vega. Obviously, I'm not discounting the possibility of Vega, but I don't think they have to go that far. It's a console after all, it will get better perfomance in games than RX 480 gets in a PC.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Both the Neo and the Scorpio will launch at $499.99.

These are enthusiast level devices that are built to make a profit on every sale, and meet the demands of people wanting the best home entertainment experience. They are not trying to sell these devices in mass quantities. Would they be happy to see these consoles move PS4 or better numbers? Hell yeah. Do they expect that though? Not by a long shot.

Both companies are going to offer exceptional experience at a premium. They will also continue to offer a great entry level experience with the OG hardware, which will be priced much lower, and should be the majority of sales for so time to come.

This strategy gives people options, options that have been seriously lacking in the console market up to now.

So what is better? Just like always, it is up to each individual. For me though, Neo + PSVR + Gran Turismo Sport is what I have been waiting for since x86/scalable platfotms where announced in 2013 and PSVR in 2014.
