Now, most of you probably remember when the rumours about an upgraded PS4 started circulating, and Phil Spencer took the word quite fast that he did not support mid-gen upgrades because it splits the focus of the developers/consumers...

Then MS had their E3, good ol Phil came out on stage and announced the Xbox Scorpio, and he couldnt be more excited....

This just seems so hypocritical to me, first he downplays the rumors of a mid-gen upgraded PS4, then he proceeds to do the same thing with the Xbox. My respect for him was severly injured when he did this, thoughts?

"I’m not a big fan of Xbox One and a half. If we’re going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers.
I want it to be a really substantial change for people – an upgrade."

That's something he said back then, his comment about not wanting an XBO and a half was more about he didn't want a box that was a small jump, if they released another machine it would have to be substantially more powerful.

He's a pr guy. He likes getting paid lots of money. There's no integrity in his job at ms. People need to stop believing him and praising him like he's some sort of hero.

For the money he gets I'd lie all the time too or pretend to be the good guy.

His quote was mostly taken out of context... the Scorpio is definitely what he appears to be referencing by "major upgrade". If you read through the quote the only thing that seems to contradict what he said is the Xbox Slim, but that's really not terribly different from the slim models consoles have been offering for ages.

And slim versions don't count as they've always been around and no difference in power.

I'm defending the Phil here, hes made many untrue and hypocritical comments in the past but this is not one of them, the sounding of Scorpio smacks around the original Xbone.

Yes he lied, they were probably already deep in the planning stage when he said that.

He said that he does not support mid-generation changes that are NOT SIGNIFICANT and aren't big.

Xbox Scorpio is significant and a huge upgrade.

So no, he didn't contradict himself.

Wait a minute, you had respect for him?, you admired him or something?.

I find it a bit typical to see this sort of thing each E3 but I was hoping it would have stopped by now.

Besides that all that has been going on is the typical PR if anything, but I suppose it's par the course to take it at face value and desire to tear him a new one because he somehow deserves it like he apparently always does.
