Heh, I don't see the comparison at all, but each to their own I guess.

I'm not a GoW fan (haven't played them), so coming without a set perspective of what a god of war game is, I thought it looked great. I have a few friends that are into GoW though, and they seemed very excited to see a change in the formula. Though they are also Dark Souls fans, and this seems a bit Dark Souls-ish, so maybe that's the reason.

Not at all? A grizzled father figure guiding an inexperienced young person through a dangerous wilderness? The scripted sequences? The over-the-shoulder camera? The walking simulation? Stopping to admire the scenery? A young person hunting a deer in the snow?

I dunno. I really think Santa Monica took a page from Naughty Dog here.

For what it's worth, I def got a TLoU vibe with the gameplay.  I see it and wanted to let you know you're not alone.  Not sure that I dislike it, but not sure that I love it either.

I really liked TLoU and really liked GOW 3.  It's like they are trying to make Kratos sentimental.  That was Kratos, right?

I liked what I saw. The series needed a shake-up.

I think what some people are hinting at (well at least me) is why not call it something besides god of war.  Why not someone new besides Kratos... Maybe they were worried that the fresh take on things would go unnotice unless they attached it to the GoW franchise?

The slower gameplay and the traditional behind-the-character camera perspective along with the seemingly greater emphasis on RPG elements makes the game vastly more appealing to me. I say this as someone who didn't particularly like the original God of Wars -- or the pure action genre in general. But if you can apply The Last of Us-style setting and characterization and Bloodborne-style gameplay, then I am pretty much sold.

Seriously, people really do need to stop jumping straight to conclusions based on one showing of a game.

Not jumping straight to conclusion, I saw a lengthy demo with a combat that is not like god of war, I'm not saying the game looks bad or anything, it's a change. But imho god of war's orginal combat was perfect for the game. And the camera,  I don't like it, that camera is better for games like uncharted or tomb raider. hack and slash action games should have cameras like Ninja Gaiden, DMC, Bayonetta, or even a fixed camera.

A) i think ruined is a bad choice of words.  it certainly is different though, changed as you say.  i'm not sure it even qualifies as a hack and slash anymore

B) that was clearly from the tutorial section of the game.  i wouldn't jump too far down the conclusions mat.  combat looks to be slower than in GoW3 but i think it could be a lot faster or at the very least better after the training wheels come off.

C) I think it looks good.  i like the change so far.  probably better than just another entry in a decades old franchise.

God of war was an awesome hack and slash action game, now the combat is slow, more like an action adventure, also, I can't believe that I'm going to say this but the fixed camera was better.

EDIT: alright I guess that I'm wrong cause I'm mad because now god of war is not god of war, I even think the new story looks promising and better than before. but the game's mechanics are totally different and you have to be blind to not see that. I saw the last of us with kratos. Hopefully the new zelda is not going to be a hack and slash with fixed camera cause I'm going to be mad too.

You're not wrong.  You're entitled to your opinion especially when the topic is PURELY subjective.  Not sure why others are ganging up on you - not right on their part.

I personally agree.  I don't think the game looks bad, just surprised they felt they had to attach the GoW name to it.  Why did that have to be Kratos.  Why the slower pace (who knows maybe later in the game it will pick up).  You're not the only one who got the last of us vibe, i did too as did at least one other person posting on this thread...

Also, lol at Zelda comment.  That will be the day... link finishes a boss by ripping off it's lower jaw and impaling him with his own teeth, green blood and all.

This one doesn't look like God of War at all; remove Kratos and you don't have anything that resembles the IP, really. It suffers from the same thing Prey trailer had.

So remove what makes God of War and you are left with something that doesn't resemble God of War.... Okay, gotcha

i believe that this is just the intro to the game, and its slower because Kratos is old and trying to teach his son. I think the story will have a twist where something happens to Kratos and you will now play as his son (an older version) and the gameplay will be like the old ones

You.... Clearly never played God of War games. Kratos was always sentimental for his family from the first and even showed it for Pandora

Kratos isn't the only thing that makes God of War, God of War. My point was that the only feature that resembles anything God of War in this trailer is the fact that there's Kratos on it.

Might as well call Playstation All Stars Battle Royale a God of War game since Kratos is in it, no?
