Forums - Microsoft - Kotaku:The Windows Store is a giant disaster. 98% of PC sales of RotTR were from Steam

Is not like Steam was perfect when it started. I'm more interested in seeing Microsoft future plans for the store. More importantly if Microsoft is going to work hard and make it better or just give up like with GFWL.

Wait, so 2% of the copies sold were through the Windows Store? That's more than I expected really

Hey now, don't forget about retail... so it's possibly closer to 1% lol.

Also at OP - .... but but... TellTale said W10 store has better reach than steam, I dunnot understands?

TellTale made the mistake of looking at the operating system instead of the graphics card.

%100 of the Windows 10 machines have access to the Windows Store. But less that %0.3 of that public is prepared to do PC gaming.

Also I call BS on this: "There are supposed to be 2x as many Xboxes out there as there are right now"

MS expected 40m consoles out by now like the PS4? Yeah sure, even Shu said Sony was surprised by their sales.

And not a soul was surprised, this is 100% deserved, the PC community is seething after MS promised they'd be "focusing on PC again" a couple of years back. If this is them focusing on PC; I'd rather they didn't and leave it to those who have a clue how to do things right and without forcing things on consumers.

You know PC gamers are aware they are pretty much the last bastion of free online gaming, if W10 store managed somehow to get gamers to come away from steam and lure them in with candy, how long do you think it would be before you required a windows live gold sub to play games online on the PC? If MS thought they could get away with it that is.

Aye, and the first thing that % of people do when it comes to their PCs is install Battle.net and Steam, maybe even Origin at a stretch. I don't think many people just become PC gamers because there is a store preinstalled on their systems, would be life if I bought a house which had a gun in the attic, I'm unlikely to become a murderer and start shooting people with it because it's there.

Also as someone else pointed out, you can install windows 10 on a Phone, Tablet, ATM machine, Self Service machine in Tesco.... none of those things are really going to be used for downloading and playing PC games, even to dream up that they are is just crazyness.

Maybe since the last push from MS that weather PC is now a good place to sell games to people... because fuck logic!

Candy? I think you mean poison.

Xbox One had a lot of TV focus on the beggining, maybe they were thinking of  selling Xbox One as a Multimidia Device.

Tomb Raider 2013 sold Millions and even so don't pleased Square Enix's Expectations.

win10 is a thing and it's new and you don't overthrow the establishment overnight (ussually).

the question is does MS have the determination to stick with it for the long haul? MS has a long history of abandoning ship if something isn't working out pretty much right away.

Exactly, and that's why it's such a mystery when MS launch all these half assed products, services and platforms.

I'm completely baffled as to how many potentially great products that seems to be crippled out of the gate or slowly destroyed by time. You'd think that a company with the size and wealth as Microsoft would be able to attract the needed talent to be able to secure high quality and best in its class products (at least at launch).

But that's often not the case and I fail to understand how that's possible.

Windows 10 Store

Xbox One

Windows Phone

Windows 8

Bing

Surface tablets

Lumia phones

Kin phones

Zune media players

Internet Explorer

other (such as Microsoft Vine, Microsoft WebTV, www.so.cl, etc.)

How are these 3 a failure?

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).
