Forums - Gaming - Censored Persona 5 Box Art (Jpn vs USA)

For a moment I thought the Japanese cover was the one from the right. I mean, to me it looks more suggestive?

Anyway, it's not a problem.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Considering the last several games were rated "M" in America and this one will likely get the same rating, I find this quite odd that Atlus would censor this. Japan is starting to get back to doing all that coddling and babying of American audiences that Nintendo did back in the 80s & early 90s. Yeah, this is a trivial edit, but as a matter of principle I'm opposed to the idea that things need to be "toned down" for Western audiences, especially for a game that's targeted towards adults. It's insulting.

Maybe they didn't want the mascot to be lost behind the rating information?

I don't know what's worse; that people are so quick to assume that such a small edit is censorship, or that our current political climate frequently makes such assumptions accurate.

I think it's because censorship in video games have made people very skeptical of localizations keeping the original game intact. Nintendo is one of the biggest culprits of this, for example (Tokyo Mirage, Fire Emblem) and I think people are tired of publishers treating cleavage, panties, and skin with this kind of attitude:

I'm obviously overexaggerating, but I couldn't resist using this clip :P

Well. The ESRB logo is bigger than that Japanese one. I'm sure they just don't want that cat character to get lost behind it. I guess people just see whatever they want to see...

that's what i saw.  they didnt' censor the boobs they moved the cat from being completely obscurred by the rating.

this is a non-story that i'm sure the internet will rage over for days.

Splatoon is a pretty good Anime though. Lupin III looks a bit off too...

Is the US so conservative as these localization decissions would make me think? Not a big change and no big deal but it's really funny that they lose time and effort in such stupid things

EDIT: Read it was because of the cat and rating logo, still, there are many other examples that show this trend

Oh no! Im getting a FE Fates deja vu!!!!!

Pocky Lover Boy!

This actually pisses me off. It's showing that they think their fanbase in Japan is more mature.

People really need to learn to read a thread through. At the very least the OP or mods should add new info to the OT so at least new people know that this is because Morgana's face would have been covered by the ERSB logo, not "censorship".
