I don't think I was ranting. I thought I laid out my thesis in a focused and dispassionate way.

Anyway, this isn't about Guerrilla's resume. It's about negative trends in the industry. I'm asking people to pause and reflect on this medium we all love so much, instead of getting caught up in a wave of hype.

Again, if you're fine with the way things are, then more power to you. I'm not. The video game industry in 2016 is a mess. Profits soar higher and higher every year, yes, but creatively we've hit a brick wall. And publishers are finding new and creative ways to separate us from our money.

I know it's a lot easier to argue back and forth about this exclusive being better than that exclusive, or bragging about Metacritic scores. I know it's not easy to have these difficult conversations and really analyze our behavior and attitudes. But it would do us good.

What exactly are you accusing this game of being?  I am sorry I just don't follow.

An extended gameplay trailer can certainly give someone a good sense of how the game plays. Sure, you can't feel the rumble in your palms or the weight and agility of each character, but it's pretty darn close. A demo, of course, is best, but those are becoming less and less common - again, because publishers want us on the hook before we ever get our hands on the game.

And you're right: we as consumers are complicit. We enable companies to take advantage of us.

oh dear god man,.. this is an RPG and story is a massive part of the genre.  this is the first and only story trailer.  this game was announced with a live gameplay demo.  it was followed up with an extended gameplay trailer.  to date we've only have gameplay trailers and no story.  a trailer focused on the story is long overdue and necessary for those of us that enjoy the story elements of a game.  please just stop derailing this thread about horizon with your rant about the state of the industry.

OT - trailer was amazing.  love seening mounts are confirmed by this trailer.

People keep quoting me and challenging me to explain myself. I don't want to derail the thread any further, but how do you expect me to react?

I think people are simply asking for a cohesive answer to what you feel is wrong with this game and the industry.  You don't provide an answer.  If you want to derail the thread with hate that fine because it is allowed when its a PlayStation exclusive but at least be clear about what your intentions are.

First thats an AMAZING looking boxart, and second i will take the delay there are already more games this year than i can afford.

Honestly, you have like 50/50 chance of this being great gameplay wise. However any way you slice it will be beloeved by fans. (It will be interesting, since it could have been just Killzone that holds them back from great gameplay.)

Based on Guerrilla's track record, I worry it's lower than 50%.

Anyway, it's just frustrating. Here's a cinematic story trailer that tells you next to nothing about how the game plays. Pre-order now!

I'm tired of being sold the sizzle, not the steak.

They moved in the right direction and made key hires to bolster where they had weakenesses. I get the impression that the combat is pretty deep and more rewarding than something comparable like The Witcher 3, which I am playing at the moment. I don't see how TW3 didn't get harsher scores considering the bland combat. Still a great game, obviously!

And a trailer that is just gameplay doesnt tell me how I interact with the game either. You would need a demo for that. A narrative driven trailer is there to highlight that said game will be narratively driven.

and truth of the matter is that ppl have already shown that they are willing to pre-order early if they are interested in a game. The only ppl to blame are the countless of ppl willing to do it.

Have you seen all the gameplay they've shown on various conferences? I believe it was last PSX or Paris Games Week where they had a rather extended gameplay session.

the regular edition boxart is so much better than the steelbook one that i would rather buy the regular version even if it doesnt have all the other nice stuff.

Sony just got Horizon off their E3 event?

Doesn't look like it http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=205815153&postcount=604

I feel as if grudges are holding back communication sometimes. Let's at least try not to hold them for too long or colour our next encounter with certain posters ... Please :)

I didn't like the dialogue in that trailer but I chose to not mention it here because everyone was having such a great time. Some people wouldn't think to do things like that but it doesn't make them bad people.
