Forums - Gaming - Is the Xbox Scorpio a ninth gen console?

Which gen does it belong to?

Its a full on replacement... 2 33.33%

Its an upgrade to the XB1... 4 66.67%

Now with all the rumour's of the Xbox Scorpio, and with sources claiming it has 6TFlops of power, many are wondering if this is a mid-gen replacement for the XB1. I however think it is something else, that the Xbox Scorpio is a 9th gen console. Now some could say this doesn't make sense; its only 4 times more powerful than the current XB1! Now look obviously it isn't a big jump like we had from the 360 to the XB1, but then again we're talking 1/2 the time this is taking place. And with the XB1 name just riddled with a bad stigma from the start, I think it'll be like the original Xbox in which they'll support for years to come, but replace in a short time. And with Phil Spencer saying that he wasn't planning on doing what Sony did; we don't have to trust his word, but 4 years is a long time to be waiting for a "mid-gen replacement".

So I think it a ninth gen console, and will be with the NX. But if its the case, Nintendo is in big trouble. With rumour's saying it'll be spec'd around the XB1, I'm certainly worried. So do you guys think the scorpio is an 8.5 gen console, or a 9th gen?

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

How about we wait until we actually have some concrete information on it?

This is the best thing to do, Until now the PS4 Neo Xbox Scorpion and NX information that we have are just rumors.

Phil Spencer hints at Xbox Two console, not 1.5 upgrade

I would say 9th gen.

Wait for concrete info like Ka-pi96 said but I've been saying for a while this is the last true "Generation", better options are becoming available for how console developers release hardware.

Its an Xbox. I think it will be an upgradable console for many years so there won't be a 9th gen.

If its mainly exclusives (that the Xbox One original cant play) then its 9th.
But if its games the old console can play as well, then its 8.5.

My "guess" is its a 8.5 gen.
Thats why its being called the Xbox One-ii (one-two = 1.5)
