The combay is nothing like Xenoblade. You don't have skills to use. You just auto-attack all the time and change weapons or aim a magic spell bomb. Finally you can also dodge teleport to some areas or do a dodge with invincibility frames.

Thats it. Thats all the combat is in FFXV. I played the demo, i hated the combat. It was boring as hell.

The performance dips and uneaven texture job also got me worried. So, i probably won't be risking buying this at launch. The only thing that can save it is the story. But the combat is gonna get really boring and repetitive really fast. Nowhere near the variety you can have on Xenoblade.

So... i will probably get it only after a price cut, just to give it a chance. But, i don't have big expectations.

Agreed, after playing the demo I just feel this isn't for me. I'll be getting it for free but will probably never play it.

As for the combat. I think it is pretty complex. The directional inputs, and aerial combat in particular require skill to master from what I have experienced. The difficulty balance must be done right so the players will be forced to use different approachs and explore the depth of the combat.

I've come to terms to reality and accepted that FFXV will be a solid 5, 6 at best. It feels like a souless modernazation of what it originally wanted to be, trying to please everyone while eliminating any bit of originality and personality that it once had in the process. I still hold hope though, which is the main reason I'll still be buying the game day 1, along with the fact that it'll be very interesting to see how the game's reception affects Squeenix, be that in a good or a bad way.

I'm now filled with determination.

all ready have the ultimate collectors preordered

Never played a Final Fantasy before. Not even a spin off, this will be my first one and I can't fucking wait. It looks amazing.

Chances are I might:

pre-order / get it day 1 purchase / A decent amount of time after it releases

Reason: The demos did not impress me.

It seems closer to an Action RPG than xenoblades.

If it didn't have Final Fantasy in the title what would your reception be?

For me it quite easily looks like one of the most ambitious and creative games of the generation. I realised that me trying to weight it up with what I wanted from FF was stopping me from appreciating it for what it is.

Maybe when they make a Final Fantasy game, with actual FF gameplay and all that, I'll be interested in it. This, I can't be because it's currently Final Fantasy by name only as far as I'm concerned. "Wow, it had an Iron Giant at the end of the demo, great, what about all the 'platforming' I just did in a Final Fantasy game?"

I'm bitter, I've not played a new FF game in 6 years (seriously people, FF13 was 6 years ago and that wasn't great) and the one we are getting is Final Fantasy: Kingdom Hearts Edition. It could be great, not denying that and I'll probably get it used when it's £20 or so but I'm really more interested in a FF game in the vein of FF9 and before. Even FF7Remake won't be like that and it's a remake of one of them.

Makes me think, currently there is a hole in the market, a game like old school Final Fantasy, as SquEnix aren't making them, why doesn't someone else?

Hmm, pie.

How about Atlus with Persona 5?

A step in the right direction (I'll get it when it comes out in the UK).

Hmm, pie.

This is the first thread I've seen on this site with so much criticism for XV. Usually it's people falling over themselves over the graphics and "cinematic" trailers and presentation, while ignoring the bland looking gameplay. You know, the thing you do in games, like, the whole time after jizzing over the graphics.

Reminds me of the hype for certain other games that no one bothered to notice were polished turds before release: Final Fantasy XII, XII-2, XII-3 and XIV. Will they never learn?
