It doesn't work. I've searched for previous threads TONS of times, and can never find them.

Unfortunately Tachikoma went away before fixing that too. Still don't know what pissed her off so much to have herself permabanned.
NX will be 9th and Neo (from the rumors) should be 8

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

What he said. Wii U seemed like a late HD answer to the PS360. NX is the real 8th gen console. Specs wise this will also hold true. Wii U is closer to PS360, NX will be closer to PS4/Xone. |
Well, I actually consider the Wii U a 8th gen console, so Nintendo had 2 consoles in a single gen, like Atari with the 2600 and 5200.
The NEO is nothing more than a PS4, nothing unique about it, therefore it is 8th gen.
The NX is a completely knew concept and will have its own unique library. It is 9th gen.
How many times do we need to go over this. It is a really simple concept....
It will take a little history to determine what they will be called. We can't determine it yet. The Genesis, for example, competed in the beginning with NES but later with SNES and history eventually grouped it with the latter. But for several years it was billed as a superior alternative to 8-bit tech.
We may see this with NX. If it's a hit with a long life, it may compete for a couple years with PS4 and later with PS5 and history will call it the first 9th gen system. If Neo has a short run, it could be remembered as a 8th gen update, like the 32X.
In another scenario, we could be witnessing the first ever half-gen, and the term "gen 8.5" may gain acceptance. If NX, Neo and One Point Five all launch and have decent impact and life span of 4 or 5 years, commentors may feel the half gen was its own piece of history.
Time, lifespan and success will likely determine the labels.

PS4=PS neo XB1=XB1.5 WiiU != NX The NX isn't just competing with the Neo or XB1. That is just not correct in any way imaginable. Once the NX comes out. And say it sells 10M in its first year. And say both the Neo and XB1.5 also sell 10M in that time. Publishers aren't going to look at them and go; "Ok. they all have 10M consoles out there " nope. Publishers will look at them and go. "ok, there are 70M PS4s, 45M XB1s and 10M NXs" |
exactly!
that why i tell everyone i'm a millennial despite being born in the 70's. my mom, like nintendo, had me way too soon so i just group myself into the generation i should have been born into instead of the one i was born into.
The generations have become muddled, and it depends entirely on whether you feel they should be separated by power or date.
In the first case, I think the Wii U more accurately reflects the seventh gen, with the Wii also fitting better in the 6th. Meanwhile, the PS4/Xbox1/Neo/Xbox upgrade/and NX all look like they'd fit comfortably within the 8th.
If it's dates... honestly I don't know, maybe we need to just acknowledge that there's a generation 8 and generation 8.5 this time around, and if that's the case then we can keep the Wii U in 8 as well. It would certainly keep things neat and tidy for the future.
It's not like we haven't had weaker consoles in the same gen as stronger in the past. The NeoGeo, for instance, towered over the Genesis/Snes etc, but it got lumped into the 4th gen right along with them.
If I had to vote on the easiest solution, it would be this:
Gen 8
-Wii U
-Ps4
-Xbox1
Gen 8.5
-PS4 Neo
-Xbox upgrade
-Nx
Really, the release of these upgrades for the PS4 and Xbox1 will actually kind of clean things up for us a bit in terms of grouping them. I sincerely doubt NX will warrant being considered a gen 9 console.
