Forums - Sony - PlayStation Europe Exec on PS4 Neo: “It’s Normal to Think of its Update;” Welcomes the Nintendo NX

"within the life of a console research and development teams are still working on improvements."

I've taken the liberty of expanding the quote to make it more accurate:

"within the life of a console research and development teams are still working on ways to shift our 4k TV range which is losing a fortune"

i think you missed the part I bolded in his post. I wanna believe that that's the qualifier of his argument.

And I agree. The core console market isn't big enough for 3 players. Especially when you consider that 95% of all games made would typically be released on all consoles. This of course is assuming Nintendo can finally get third parties behind them.

I don't even think it's big enough for two.... but the competition is needed to keep companies honest. If it were left to Sony, we would be paying for $1000+ consoles and probably have a very very dated network infrastructure. If it were left to MS, we would not be using discs anymore and/or not able to buy or play used games. If it were left to Nintendo.... well, thrid parties wouldn't exist. unless bibtedno says it's OK to.

I think Nintendo actually did a great job handling both core and casual with the Wii. It could have done more, and third party could have cared a bit more, but I think I would not dismise it as a core console.  At the end of the day, all three consoles last generations did fine, some not financially great, but still fine.

According to VG Chartz, the Wii don't had a lot of Third Party games selling well on it, i think that 2 Generations prior to the Wii with just a few Third Party Support hurted Nintendo's Fanbase of Third Party franchises.

Excuse me? ok. let me understand what you are saying here. Are you saying that third party devs would release games on the Wii, then make a LOT of money from that game, then rather than keep investing in the platform that made them all that money, take it and go make AAA games and release those exclusively on other platforms???

Yes, that's what they did. Since the Wii allowed them to make great returns even without great budgets, it was used as a cash cow for all its lifetime. The scale of production of Wii titles didn't get noticeably greater with time, the scale of Ps3/X360 productions did.

I Think that Ubisoft, was  one of the only Third Party companies that achieved to make rivers of money with the Wii, i think that this is the reason why Wii U have a Assassin's Creed game, Ubisoft had faith in the Wii U.

The myth that a company picks a lot of money made on one venture to dump in one that doesn't make any,

Doesn't even make sense. If Wii was so lucrative they would develop more for it and less for the twins, not the opposite.

I am sorry but I think the basis of your argument is flawed.

Third party releases for the Wii dropped and dropped into near bin existence ove rthe course of the consoles life. That simply wouldn't happen if ur theory about higher margins and cash cows are true. Cause the publishers work, is that they go where the money is. If they were making a lot of money from their Wii offerings, they would increase the volume of money invested in the platform knowing fully well they stand to make more and not reduce it.

So no, what you are saying makes little sense to me.

I agree publishers go where the money is, but it doesn't really contradicts what I'm saying.

The Wii support died more or less after 2010, becuase by that time the market of HD consoles had fully kicked in and was more viable while Wii sales were declining, also mobile sales were on the rise. During the early years some 3rd party publisher did get a lot form Wii games (Just Dance, Fit games, guitar hero, lego games, etc. etc.) , but they never believed its success could last so they never risked to invest more.

VG Chartz have a better way to tell how much each publisher sold on a Plataform, is just chose what Publisher you want to see and chose the plataform, i will tell the numbers.

Activision, sold 73.54 Millions of Software publsihed for the Wii, 127 Millions for the PS3, 161 Millions for the Xbox 360.

Ubisoft, sold 92.97 Millions of Software for the Wii, 73.10 Millions for the PS3, 82.91 Millions for Xbox 360

EA, 39.84 Millions for the Wii, 94.23 Millions for the PS3, 112 Millions for Xbox 360.

Take-2, 1 Million for the Wii, 4.57 Millions for the PS3, 9.59 Millions for Xbox One.

I Don't know how to get Warner Bros's numbers, but for a lot of Third Party Publishers, the PS3, and Xbox 360,  Sold more software.

Yes, in a longer period (since Wii support dropped after 2010) and with very much larger investments.

Also my argument wasn't 3rd party publisher made more money on Wii than on Ps3 and X360. My argument was taht Ps3/X360 owners benefited form Wii's success as well, since the money 3rd party companies made on Wii weren't reinvested in Wii games but on HD platforms.

Last generation?

Only Xbox 360 and PS3 were succesfull in the core gaming market, Wii sold primarily to casuals. Wii created it's own market really, though it dissappeared very quickly aswell.

Denial at it's finest. What's so hard about admitting nintendo won?
