Forums - Gaming - Wii U Is Dead (Pretty Much) -- What's Its Legacy?

The Good : Strong Indie support. While it's no big deal to many people - it's helped show promise for better 3rd party support in the future for Nintendo.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

It's been dead for like two years.

I'm glad I have mine xD

It's legacy is to teach other companies how to NOT make a console if you don't want it to flop hard.

I swear its name is half of the problem. Honestly nobody knows what it is. If they do they say its some controller thingy unless they are full on gamers. From about late 2011 to early 2013 I didn't touch consoles because I just had too much going on with life and was kinda burned out(got a fishing boat). I didn't even know the wii u was a thing till i got my ps4 dec 2013. I mean I am a console collector and I didn't even know???
Its legacy to me will be the worst named console ever! On the good end it will just be about its games because nintendo can always make good games. I have been waiting since early 2014 for a price drop and it kinda pisses me off because its dying off and still expensive. Makes me want to wait till i get it second hand instead if buying new. Sigh... Damn you nintendo.

The worst console i ever purchased at this point. I am not going to get the NX, Nintendo lost my trust as a customer.
I only going to buy Nintendo handhelds from here on out for the mainline Pokemon games.

Bayonetta 2.

It was the only game that meant a damn on the Wii U that had the entire internet fighting.

Failure.

The Dark Times.

If it has a legacy of positivity, it will be that gamers believe it convinced Nintendo to once again build a powerful core console to right the Wii U wrongs.

The Wii U will be remembered as a mixed bag by me. It finally had Nintendo tear its walls down to third party developers, and their takes on the franchises could be some of the best ones to date (with Hyrule Warriors, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, and Star Fox Zero).

I'll also remember it for being the first console to fully embrace a mature genre with how many hack and slash games their were. Bayo/2, Wonderful 101, Devil's Third, Ninja Gaiden Razor's Edge, Darksiders II, and if you count them Warriors Orochi 3 and Hyrule Warriors.

I'll remember it fondly for having one of the most amazing open world games I ever had the pleasure of playing with Xenoblade X, and though the story seemed smaller in scale, it could just as easily be a series that has one of the biggest and greatest stories to date.

I'll remember it for having some of the greatest entries in their first party ever. Sm4sh is simply unbelievable, and will be the benchmark for every Smash that follows. Mario 3D World is a visual feast in some of its levels, and is all around a master class of game design. Donkey Kong is the best in its series period, Fatal Frame FINALLY got a new game released worldwide post being Nintendo 2nd party, and its actually a scary atmospheric survival horror with tons of content. Then Splatoon... Oh God, it had the world asking themselves if they were a kid or a squid.

Love or hate any of the games mentioned, people would be hard pressed to tell me it wasn't a giant leap in the right direction.

The bad... The ONLY regret I will have of the Wii U is that they could have done so much more with it. It should have had its own Fire Emblem, and exclusive Zelda, and Animal Crossing, and Metroid. They should have pushed for Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers 2 or Bravely U, or a Mega Man after the freak out of his introduction to Sm4sh. That said what they gave us though was generally a blast.

He isn't wrong though, I plan to pick up a Wii U whenever it gets a price drop or when it is on special here in Australia. A few months ago a retailer was selling the Splatoon bundle for like $190US!!! It will be an expensive retro console because of the gamepad, just like the Virtual Boy which goes for alot of money even though it sucked as a console(unlike the Wii U).
