Forums - Gaming - Lichdom is the worst-performing game Digital Foundry has ever tested

"There's no beating around the bush here - Lichdom is a game that rarely manages to deliver a frame-rate north of twenty frames per second. In fact, the PlayStation 4 clocks up an average frame-rate of just 15fps across the run of play, with dips as low as 10fps. On top of that, frame-time latencies can be astonishingly high with some remarkable stutter. We've run the rule over a multitude of titles since we started frame-rate testing console games back in 2008 - and we're pretty sure we've never seen anything quite as bad as this.

To make matters worse, if you're unlucky enough to play the game on Xbox One, you'll be treated to the same incredibly low frame-rate - and v-sync is disengaged too. The end result is a game with constant tearing - and it's a level of performance so poor that we actually found it difficult to look at the screen for more than a few minutes at a time. In comparison, while still very sluggish, v-sync is active on the PS4 version."

"Speaking of the PC version, it should be noted that the original release on Steam runs like a dream on our GTX 970 set-up. A full 1080p60 is easily within reach and the game manages to feel highly responsive to boot."

"There's actually a genuine sense of disappointment here, because fundamentally, Lichdom is a genuinely fun title - as long as you play the original PC game. This is a game few have heard of, but it's also one that's well worth checking out (it helps that the original release is exceptionally cheap now) - and it could have found a following on consoles. But the performance and loading issues are simply too severe to overlook. The game itself becomes nearly impossible to enjoy when performance is consistently this poor."

I've heard of this game, but it never really piqued my interest. What I find interesting in whole story is that both MS and Sony certified this game for release in such a terrible state. Hopefully, at least some of the gaming press will be at their throats for further explanations.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

And amazing, people are talking about PS4 Neo on comment section. "Oh, this could be for PS4 Neo!"

thank god for neo mode!

and people trust these third party developers like Bioware complaining about the PS4 Neo. They would like to develop their games as lazy as possible, here you can see this indie developers robbing peoples cash for zero effort on a normal PS4 because they know they can

Saw video.... 15fps on Xbox One & PS4.... no thanks.

Xbox version also has crazy bad screen tearing.

Xbox and Playstation need to set standards for what is acceptable for games.

Something that has a avg fps of 15, and dips below 10fps, shouldnt be acceptable.

Yes Neo will save us from sub 30 fps hell!

Wow, the game looks good on PS4, but man they didn't even try to optomize it. This is a case where the console maker might need to consider rejecting a game if it runs at 15fps for about the whole game.

I would've expected that someting like this had no chance of getting MS/Sony certificate, but there you have it, they are as lax as Apple store.

Honestly, I'm really eager to see if gaming press will make a fuss about this instead of their usual click-bait subjects...you know, the thing that ACTUALLY matters, given that game is prety much unplayable in this state, yet it's given green light from both manufacturers.

Long loading times and low frame rate? Disgusting.
