Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo listens! Starfox Amiibo content is unlockable in game!

No it's a normal copy ability like most of the others.

Yep Rol was the first to point that out, and even if they actually did listen, it would only prove they have selective hearing, although we know that already.

Do we have confirmation that the Kirby ability is just accesible through Amiibo? Maybe it's just another... SF:Zero case. I prefer to be cautious about it XD.

And, yeah, Nintendo definitely have selective hearing. I think that SF:Zero is not about Nintendo hearing the fans (I'm pretty sure it was gonna be this way since the beginning), but we'll never know. There are some cases of them hearing though. SF:Zero was improved because of E3 backslash if I remember right.

Oh i want them to do that for fire emblem fates. it wouls save me from buying the amiibo's.

Yeah the amiibo content seems to have never been locked out but a month ago, the ganondorf amiibo locked out an extra difficulty method. So Nintendo may have listened to fans upset about that and was smart enough to not do this again with the black arwing. However they still wanted to sell the amiibo by revealing the true nature of the black arwing unlockability after the embargo. Then again, the extra hard mode still isn't patched in for TP:HD.

The Kirby thing is explicitly mentioned on their official website. When you take that as a guideline though, that amiibo-exclusivity is mentioned while non-exclusivity is not, then the first assumption when amiibo features are confirmed should be that they are not exclusive unless specifically mentioned.

I've read this in the official website:

"

Tap any compatible amiibo™ figure in Story Mode and Kirby™ will inhale the in-game figure to gain a Copy Ability

Tap any of the new Kirby series amiibo™ figures to give Kirby a unique look or special Copy Ability "

I'd not say that's a confirmation unless they specifically use the word "exclusivity". OK, it sounds like that's the case, but I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt and wait. The only words that confirm an Amiibo exclusivity are maybe "unique" look, but that could be cosmetic stuff. Copy abilities could be, maybe, an early unlock through Amiibos.

Yes, that's on the game's page, but in their news section after the game's announcement it was explicitly stated. I am not going to dig that up though.

Of course, you can hope that Nintendo changed their minds after the announcement because the game's page wording is ambiguous, but I wouldn't count on it.

I was curious, so I looked it up.

"Tapping the Kirby figure is the only way to get the UFO ability"

go to the kirby part and read the 2nd to last sentence. Pretty shitty thing to do.

Ooookey. I'm all against gameplay content locked behind amiibos, so shitty decision. Why not an SF:Zero approach? Early unlockables and cosmetic stuff. That's it, Nintendo.

That's like an easy mode, isn't it? It would be cool if it's unlockable in game for beginners. But, well, you know, Nintendo handling Amiibos is always hit and miss... I think they should take example of SF:Zero. Early unlockables don't bother me a lot.

I was just thinking, about the title, we are assuming that Nintendo listened, when maybe the in-game unlock was there in the first place! XD.

If by normal you mean one of the rarest abilities available only in a few places in 4 games, unless you count Dream Course.  Not saying it makes it all better, but it's not a common, signature ability like, say, sword or fighter.

Pretty much called this whenever people were prematurely freaking out over the supposed locked content. Just goes to show you should always wait until it's actually confirmed before making assumptions.

Unless Nintendo made the decision AFTER seeing backlash.

either way this is great news as having a mode locked behind paid dpc is stupid

Now patch Twilight Princess.
