A source close to the development of the new Red Dead game has now confirmed to us that the map is indeed the real deal, revealing that this is a "very recent" art direction map for the upcoming title.

They also confirmed that the game will be set before the events of Redemption, and that the new map is just east of the one that featured in Red Dead Redemption.

If you look at the bottom left (click to zoom) you'll see the Great Plains, home to the Blackwater settlement that sits at the top right of the Red Dead Redemption map - so you can see how the two come together. The lack of a railroad in the Great Plains, which featured in RDR, also points to this being earlier in the timeline.

Take this with a grain of salt too...

I have a good friend that is a stuntman living in NYC. Has done work on Daredevil season 2 and Blindspot. He told me he met a guy who said he has been doing some mo-cap work for the game. Also confirmed that the game takes place before RDR and that he was doing mo-cap for a character who is half-Indian half-white. Never stated if he was the main character/characters or not though.

I'm sure we will hear about this game sometime this summer.

I liked the railroad - I used to just sit on the roof of the wagons and watch the landscape pass by.

RDR is one of my favourite games of all time, I can't wait for a sequel. Hope they improve the gunplay and cover system while keeping intact all the things that made RDR great.

I'm looking forward to this. This franchise is far better than GTA.

Hopefully they pull a Fallout 4. Announce it and then release it 6 months later. Not sure I could wait much longer for another Red Dead.

I'd look forward to a new Red Dead, provided I get given the time of day.
