Forums - Sony - ''Sony Is Quick To Drop Hardware'' Is A Fabricated Myth

You could just ignore almost everything they released and focus only on home consoles to prove how they're successful on supporting their products. It works for almost everyone in this site

Said that Sony's quick to drop hardware?

Oh, I see. What you should've said was that Sony not supporting peripherals is a myth.

I mean it's not a myth, but that's the argument you were trying to make. There is no perception that so it doesn't support hardware in general.

Who was spreading this myth? Never seen it before.

Oh i agree with you. They only care about the main home console.

Peripherals and handhelds get thrown out faster than yesterday's trash.

I'm pretty sure the same will happen with VR. Sony is like the little kid that is always too excited about a new toy and gets tired of it 5m later and moves to the next one.

maybe i'm just stupid but i don't understand this thread

Yup, they are quick to drop their experiments if they fail. And yes, Sony itself abandoned the Vita. Third parties aren't Sony. Otherwise, since the Dreamcast itself was getting new releases as far as 2009, I guess Sega didn't abandoned it after all.

That's a bogus comparison.

If we are talking about their main consoles then yeah. But with their peripherals then no. They are dropped like hot potatoes the moment they don't sell well and Sony appears to want to forget they existed.

PS4.5 might not even exist. Alot of assumptions being made here.

But yeah, Sony does good with supporting older HW, probably the best of the big three IMO.

So people constantley say that Sony comes up with New Hardware and then is quick to drop support for it, i dissagree.

They dropped SOFTWARE support for these devices.

examples:

- PS Move (PS3): is required for PSVR now, how is it dropping hardware if its required on the newer console as a last gen periphiphal ?

So where are the Sony-published Move titles after 2012? Where is Sports Champions 2? Why are the Move controls broken in Puppeteer? Where are the PS4 games with Move support?

- PS4 Camera: same story, it used to be worthless pile but now its selling a lot of units on Amazon. On my Amazon it even outsold the Xbox 360 and -One Kinect devices, the amount of user scores are an indication.

So where are the games that take good use of the PS4 camera besides The Playroom and Tearaway Unfolded? I tried almost all supported games, but the camera features in most of these games are a joke.

-PSPGO: wasnt a new system to begin with but a digital only PSP, all wh*at they did is closing down the store but you can still buy/download PSP games on the PSPGo from your PS3s store. So again, were was it dropping an entire new hardware/system? It was just a nice model for a certain demographics and its still working.

Although I didn't like the PSP GO (smaller screen and position of the buttons/digipad), it's software support was okay. But I wish that EVERY good PSP/PS1 game were available as digital version in every PS Store region.

- PSVITA: Despite that Sony ceased first party support the Vita gets plenty of japanese games and gets now more games than the 3DS. It should be visable to anyone whos really into handhelds. So even a Sony system on the dying bed still gets more games and support than other systems in their prime.

The good software support of the Vita is not Sony's merit. Where are the first party games since Killzone/Tearaway in 2013?

You also forgot to mention the abysmal PS Mobile experiment of Sony.

- how did they dropped software support if they still get software? And the PSP is a legacy device and so is the Move on PS3.

- puppeteer broken?  sources?

- PS Move still is usefull for VR where it will get software in the future.

- PS Camera still has the same amount of Software like Xbox Ones kinect. Tell me why it should be better with the competion namley Xbox and PC. Do they have more software? not really. Why you always leave out the competition? And again PSVR software will uttilize the camera.

- They are still avaible digital on PS3 to be downloaded. PSP as a whole is a legacy device now like PS2.

- But still the Vita gets plenty of games. You have to look again at the competition. And its working out for Sony without devoloping games for the system.

- PS Mobile wasnt a PS product and it benifited Android, its more like a disavantage for Google now losing PS certified hardware.
