Review Standards for Videogames: Out of 100 points

Originality: For 2006, a game having this massive of an open world with this many side missions is pretty impressive. This game felt huge, especially for a decade ago. While the combat was repetitive and non-original, the story brought me back to 80s action movies in a time when other games were way beyond that. It was a nice change of formula that was enhanced by the fact that I’m currently watching “Chuck” the T.V. show. The combat was very unoriginal, however, and got quite tedious at times.

Graphics: Wow, is what I want to say! I was actually impressed (2016) with the way the island looked in this game. The character models were dated, but for this time period this game was beautiful looking.

9/10

Art Style: Really didn’t like the art style in the cut scenes, but otherwise I have no issues.

10/15

Story: A rogue spy tasked with secretly taking down a communist dictator (irony) on an island that poses a threat to the U.S.? Cool beans, bra. Not original, but cool beans!

Game Interface: No complaint.

5/5

Controls easy and fluid or difficult and rigid? I played on PC and scrolling up or down for the weapon switches was very annoying. Also, some of the vehicles would spaze out like crazy when driving them and don’t even get me started on the controls for the plane at the end of the game…

2/5

Is it fun? I quite enjoyed it for a game from 2006. It had a lot of repetition, but I suspect in 2006 I wouldn’t have thought so (considering I was Wii bowling like crazy everyday after school with friends).

* Means it was more fun than the score indicates. Scores judge the overall quality of the game (how fun it is only counts for 15% in my reviews)

NR means Not Recommended based on inappropriateness.

^Charm is rewarded to games that have an undefinable quality to them that makes them amazing and have high replayability value.

Oh hey, I'm playing this right now on 360! The world is huge but the gameplay and mission structure is a bit repetitive.

I will say that this is one of those sandbox games where you get what you put in. Unfortunately, I'm just not enjoying it enough to track down all the hidden items and side missions.

The age of it, and knowing how much more enjoyable open world games are now days, prevents one from appreciating it for what it is. It truly is a massive game for 2006.
