As a public company Nintendo #1 is to maximize shareholders wealth.

Mobile stands as a platform that is rapidly growing and account for a significant part of the worldwide video game market. Nintendo gain nothing from ignoring the market, with the right moves they can establish a position for themselves in the market where they can increase their exposure and maybe even create a new revenue driver for the company.
