Weird.  You have no idea what the games will be and yet you won't buy it.  Did you buy a Wii?  This seems far more core-gamer oriented.

I was 10 when the Wii came out if it released today I would be way more sceptical

So you just don't like Nintendo products.  That's fine, but don't act as if this device is the cause.

I dont know... interesting in theory perhaps, but in practice it sounds pretty annoying and the one button idea sounds incredibly limiting.

The controller has at least 3 in this set up, matching the Wii, which worked fine.  In most likely also has 2 triggers, making 5 physical buttons.

You poor thing.  You must be having some strange experience with your games that I have never known.  How are you dealing with your characters walking off the side of the TV?

My point is the joysticks obstruct the screen, the whole thing looks a mess.

Your point is flawed.  The edge of play is only where the designer chooses it to be.  If appropriate, the area beyond the sticks could provide additional periphial view.  If not, they can end the play area in the center of the sticks, making the right and left HUD and virtual buttons only.  No designer is going to make the character run behind the stick any more than they would have them run off the edge of the screen.  Your point was ridiculous.

I don't mind Nintendo innovating as long as it's good, which in the case of this ''leak'', it isn't. Just imagine playing something like Smash or Bayonetta on that thing! If it ends up being true I just hope they offer a regular controller to go with it...

Did you play Smash on Wii?

Yup, and I still use my remotes on Smash for Wii U. I really liked the Wii Remote and I'd rather have an improved version of it (Would work nicely with VR, too) than having a controller focused on using the touchscreen for actions tbh.

That scroll wheel patent should be used though, that's the kind of useful innovation I'm looking for.

Don't worry OP, I know most comments here have been overwhelmingly negative but I think your analysis was very interesting. I'm still not 100% convinced that this will be the NX controller, but if it is, this post has definitely made me more receptive to it. Thanks.

I love Nintendo products but this look terrible. I can't play smash bros with this, I can't imagine trying to play smash bros with digital buttons and analog nubs and that's a huge downside for me because I'm a competive player. Then you have 3rd parties that would abandon this thing in a heart beat. If this is some kind of optional add on then yeah they should go for it let people see what it does but there needs to be a traditional controller bundled with every system

I think this device will, in practice, work similar to a Wii-Mote.  It's like the SNES to NES pads.  This one is rounded and has more interface options.

Interesting theory, I don't think that's the controller though imo that role falls to the other patent of a gamepad like controller. The tech here though maybe implemented in it though as well as the handheld.

It has all of the interface third parties need, and more interface than a Wii-mote offered for Smash.  I think you'll need to give it a second look.

The shape reminds me more of a classic controller. I think it could be good if the on screen buttons feel fine.
