I'd just like to also point out on all consoles sometimes games look better with a lower native resolution but better AA. Its also worth mentioning what Digital Foundry are commenting on is echoing Remedies own siggraph presentation back in August 2015. Its not all about resolution. Take a look at some of the advance tech other games don't have that Remedy are doing.

http://www.dualshockers.com/2015/08/25/xbox-one-exclusive-quantum-breaks-wip-screenshots-show-advanced-effects-and-comparisons/

All those screenshots are obviously from the game engine running on a PC neither the console version nor the PC version of the actual game will have anywhere near those level of effects. Crytek also has similar siggraph presentations where they show all these advanced features for thier game engines that don't even make it into their own games because of the GPU power required.

No they are from the Xbox One version. Some of the keynote ( which is on YouTube ) and the screens I provide you state the shadows are native 720p. Exactly like Digital Foundry say. The PC version will have higher res shadows than that. And will output an overall resolution of 4k at 60fps.

Digital Foundry say themselves they can't pin down the overall output resolution. In games that are 1080p its extremely common on consoles to have shadows among other things at a lower native resolution. Which is why shadows often look blocky around the edges for example. Remedy already told us the resolution of Ambient occlusion and shadows etc last year.

This news is nothing new.

Here for example is part of the siggraph presentation last year.

Anyone notice that he is shooting through walls when standing behind it for cover?

Nop, there is a gif on that but this game has enough bad news to add one more.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Exactly. Wait till the game is out, then we'll know.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Is there really a gif of that?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Yep here : http://imgur.com/yEg0TGz

There would be less bad news if they wouldnt have tried to make people believe it's a technical masterpiece, now reviews talk about low physic with no weight ( cars moving like cardboard box), blur on the screen, low resolution , tearing, assets/LOD taking some time to load while you play and other things i read in an other french technical analysis of the game. http://www.gamersyde.com/news_gsy_preview_quantum_break-17691_fr.html

Though the gameplay is the positive side.

Now that shooting through the wall thing is the first news about this game I find actually troubling 😐 didn't even notice it first. Although this could be among the first thing they'll fix, hopefully. Again, we'll see soon.

Ouch! So much for direct X giving the X1 a power boost. What happened to the cloud, couldn't they use that to run parts of the game and achieve 1080p? Funny how it doesn't matter now when MS themselves boasted about Forza 6 and Halo 5 both being 1080p. Funny how this works now that another X1 game does not meet the current gen standard. Facts are facts people regardless of how good they game may be. Even the WiiU has no problem outputting games in 1080p.

I'll just spell it out for you RexSad:

I'm sure everyone would prefer higher resolution and 1080p does look nice and crisp. But it isn't everything and se far we seem to have visually impressive game to play and on top of that it's even more about storytelling and gameplay. 720p can be acceptable, it's the whole package that counts. Also, my X1 is running Beach Buggy Racing 1080p and 60fps no problems. It meets current game standards and QB does not?

Elements running at different resolutions is nothing new, neither is lighting updates running at lower fps, or animations in the distance. Even DriveClub is full of different resolutions for shadows at different distances when you look closely.

It all depends if they find a good balance where nothing sticks out like a sore thumb, better leave shadows and certain lighting / effects out of a scene if it's only going to draw attention in a negative way. That's part of the optimization process and could still be fine tuned. It's always a shame when you have great looking character models with blocky shadows or dithered light edges running across them. Or a great looking location ruined by low res or fixed reflections sticking out.

Anyway that's part of the 'downgrade' process. Turn stuff off that wouldn't look good in motion or tank the frame rate too much. A blessing and a curse of fixed hardware, the balancing is done for you. On PC the fps simply dips and you have to downgrade yourself. The choice is yours with QB.
