Just looked up Fire Punch, and the premise does seem interesting. Not too many chapters to catch up on either. Might have to try this one out next. |
I knew going with the Jump-esque image was the right call. It's Jump+, anyway, whatever that is.
Also, since I posted that, an awesome new character has appeared. She seems to be both insane and hilarious. That's always a good combination.

Is that because everyone is talking about Bleach now? xD If that is the case, I understand. I don't follow bleach either... |
I don't follow Bleach, so much as I shadow it; like a vulture waiting for something to die.

You had me at the bolded. I kinda wavered with the italic...but I came back and then some with the underlined.
I'm too lazy to look it up, but I know Shueisha has a lot of other manga under its umbrella, and several that use the Jump brand. I don't know the difference exactly, but I'm pretty sure it has a monthly version and a few online-only versions used for spinoff manga (I recently found out that Ao no Exorcist is in a monthly version of Jump, for example). I don't know too much about it, but there was a Gintama gag once where Gin and Zenzo told each other to read various Jump spin-offs while fighting over the main magazine. And I take everything in Gintama as law of course.
It looks like Fire Punch is weekly though, which is good for me. Since I tend to lose interest in monthly...wait I think we already had this conversation. Hm. *scratches the back of his head*

So it was rumored that One Piece was going be monthly from now on but Jump has denied those rumors

Yep that is absolutely a person from the Manga/Anime. Not sure of their name yet -but I instantly reconized the picture. You should watch it. I'm not sure why I expected something "serious" - but this isn't serious at all. It is light hearted and great. I can recommend a couple places where you can download it, if you don't want to deal with having to stream it off crunchroll. |
Alright! I'll try to watch it real soon! I meant to watch it today, but I ended up doing other things instead, and I've been addicted to a certain game for the past few days. I think I found somewhere to watch it, so I'll try to watch it soon and then share my thoughts on it!

I watched it yesterday, too. The joke in that page is in the anime but I feel like it was better executed in the manga, probably due to translation. One thing I really like in manga that anime can't replicate are those little side comments. Sometimes they're really funny or informative, almost like thought bubbles, but they make no sense in animated form. Also, yeah, Super is leading a Jump revolution. |
Sweet! Glad to hear that joke is in there. I heard it was being adapted into an anime and was wondering how it would turn up. Having been up to date with it, I was worried the anime wouldn't be so good, since I feel the comedy in this manga is so-so at times, or not really even there. I feel like it's more about the art and the cute characters than having good writing. I dunno if that's just me though. The 1st couple of chapters I really enjoyed.
Now that I think on it, I don't think I've really both read manga and watched their adaptations for any works I followed, so I'm not really familiar with differences between a manga version and anime version. If there was an anime version of Yotsubato though, I would soo watch that. Too bad the mangaka is completely against that, so that will never happen...

Shadow8 said: Oh yeah maybe I should have mentioned New Game...read it a few months ago, thought it was pretty cute and funny. I checked out the anime to see if it was a proper adaptation and it is, so that's good for people wanting to jump into the anime. I do recommend it as well, it's a nice read. I read so many mangas, some get lost in thought xD |
Well, I got ya covered! If there's any other manga you wanna recommend, feel free to post it in here any time xD I'll be throwing out some mini-recommends from time to time as well.
pokoko said: I just started something called Fire Punch and, holy cats, it's brutal. Lots of death. It's about a dystopian world where everything is snow and ice. People are born who are blessed, meaning they have powers, and a particularly powerful Blessed named the Ice Witch has brought ruin to civilization. Most villages are on the edge of freezing and starvation but some have grown powerful by preying on and enslaving others. The titular character of the manga is a boy who has fantastic regeneration abilities--which, as it turns out, isn't that great of a thing when people are starving. Yeah, like I said, it's brutal. Bad stuff happens, obviously, and he essentially turns into Kratos, except MORE UNKILLABLE. Lots of people dying, innocent and bad, lots of Fatality! type kills. Pretty interesting. I see 11 chapters out and I'm on chapter 7. |
Wow, is this something fairly new, or just kind of slow in releasing chapters? I can give that a read as well with only 11 chapters.

I can't tell whether you're really interested in Bleach, or are really against it, haha... Kind of sounds like you're waiting for it to die.

Yeah, I tend to avoid those, as I fall behind and then it's a pain to catch back ... huh? Hmm.
Gintama is indeed a good source for the truth about Jump and mangaka in general. Some of it is really, really hard to believe but I trust Gintama.

As I said in the anime thread, New Game is like a moe version of Shirobako. Now go watch Shirobako, it's an extremely good original anime about producing anime. Very informative, too.
Have you seen/read Azumanga Daioh, the previous work by the mangaka of Yotsuba? It's one of my favorite anime of all time and one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Speaking of hilarious, I just read the latest + Tic Neesan, which is always ridiculous, and laughed out loud.

Alright, ryokai! on the Shirobako anime. It looks really cute and like something I would enjoy watching. I have other anime I need to watch now, so I'm not sure if I can fit this right away, but I will try!
I have read Azumanga Daioh too. I have the complete manga set too. It's my all time favorite 4 koma manga. Watching the short clip you provided, I see it adapts the material excellently. The voices fit the characters well, and watching all the funny bits in motion makes it even better. I really need to watch this as well, haha.
That manga page is pretty funny as well. Those expressions are so dumb looking, and that shine on his 'gun'... xD Man, you follow a lot of manga. I'm having trouble keeping track of them all~
