Forums - General - My list of favourite Firefly episodes from leas to greatest.

I'm comfortable picking a favourite. It's picking the non favourites after The Train Job that is the problem. I really don't know which one comes next.

Whoa, whoa, whoa there stof... The Train Job had nothing to do with Firefly's failures, Fox did. The Train Job was a great epsidoe and also introduced Niska, whose second appearance was awesome. Sorry, but I can think of an episode or two I'd consider less favorable than Trainjob such as Heart of Gold and Bushwacked. Frankly, if you forget the politics behind it, it's a great episode.

If Ariel, Out of Gas, and Jaynestown don't make up two of the top three, though, you're asking for it... *shakes fist*

You do not have the right to never be offended.

@Stof

I think everyone else is going to have a fair hand at making it one. This is a topic where i doubt that people will sit idly by while you put their nth favourite episode of Firefly in n+1th place.

For me hands down the pilot is my favorite. I don't think I've ever seen a pilot episode that even approached the quality it does. Even if it weren't the pilot it would easily vie for the top spot, but when you consider what is accomplished with a blank slate (assuming you watch it in the order intended) in the course of two short hours it is simply phenomenal.

Chemistry doesn't even begin to describe what was achieved. Casts who've had ten seasons together don't blend as well on screen as they did in the first 10 minutes.

Quite simply, no matter how I look at it, be it from a technical, emotional or narrative perspective the pilot was easily my favorite.

PS - Those of you who haven't seen the series or the movie just go out and buy the DVDs sets for both. Most DVDs are hardly worth the money they costs let alone the time you spend watching them, but this is the exact opposite. You'll finish every scrap of content wishing for more.

The most deserved bump ever! Firefly FTW!

Hello.

Quite possibly the best sf show ever except for the almighty one : "the twilight zone".

Bye.

Zones : I still don't understand all the love for Blizzard, what was the last game they developed worth playing?

I bet you pick Out of Gas next. It's a good episode but not nearly as good as some of the others.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

The Train Job is one of my favorite episodes. The ending may be the most humorous of the series.

My least favorite episode would be "Safe" where the villagers capture River and her brother.  The REAL pilot episode introduced all of the characters, but it was dull and would fall near the bottom of my list.

Alright. It'll be a little while before my next episode (maybe a day or two)

But in the mean time, here's one interesting look at the butchery that was done by Fox. Here's a list of all Firefly episodes. The shows themselves are listed in order of when they were made and what order they were meant to show in. On the right however, they're numbered in the order they were actually shown.

you'll notice that 3 episodes weren't shown, the Pilot was the last aired episode and the largest block of uninterrupted episodes is three. That's right, original viewers never saw more than three episodes in a row.... Goram Fox!

Fox tends to dislike shows it doesn't have complete control over, especially the money rights. The less control they have, the more likely cancellation will be.

That's how Futurama got canceled. Groenig learned his lesson with the Simpsons and didn't sign everything but the kitchen sink over to Fox. This led to Fox doing everything it could to get the show canceled. They would schedule it guaranteeing the show would be time shifted due to football. In addition, they showed new episodes sporadically. Even with these obstacles the show got good ratings, but Fox still canceled it.

Thats a damn good point you are making. Its true, futurama episode of season 3 (tale of two santa's) didn't get aired. And a lot was schedulded very poorly. Thats why i love how simpsons, family guy, futurama diss fox.
