Maybe Ring of Fates is the closest, but I don't really know how it plays...

I would not buy Children of Mana, that one is similar in some ways, but extremely boring.

Two games that are quite different from Zelda, but have some things in common and are great to play would be Lunar Knights and the two Castlevania games.

There are not too many games close to Zelda it seems...

Ring of Fates again was among the small selection of interesting games. Is it out in Europe yet?

Children of Mana....no thank you from what I read.

I have plenty of Castlevania games and she wont touch them. Lunar Knights again is interesting.

I find it really weird that there arent any good games similar to Zelda on the DS. What happened to the Soul Blazer Triology? Alundra?

I think it just released last friday, but I'm not sure.

Lunar Knights is really funny, but you don't have too much exploration in that game, it is quite straightforward. The story is interesting though and the characters are nice, the game never really gets boring and it is good balanced, maybe a little on the "easy" side. It is not as epic as Zelda, but definitely a game worth playing.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

@Onyxmeth: Yeah, sounds like a good choice. She really diggs the boat pieces collection stuff.

@dschumm: Thanks, sounds interesting as well. I might give it a try. Is it out in Europe already?

@nintendo_fanboy: Great, I wanted to try RoFate myself I think. The only issue seems something with the framerate..lets see. And Lunar Knights seems like a nice pick up as well - maybe not for full price...

I actually saw FFIII for 33 Euros the other day. Might pick it up for myself.

Funny. So we watched some videos on youtube. and she squarely put her opinion on Final Fantasy: Rings of Fate.

Unfortunately I don't think Layton is in Europe yet.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

*naznatips is exempt

FF CC: Ring of Fates is out in Germany since Friday.

Have bought it, haven't played it so far, but I from what I saw from videos I think it's the closest you can get at the moment with regards to the Zelda graphics & feeling (that's why I bought it :)

One warning:
Latest issues of reliable German multiplatform magazines MAN!AC / Mobile Gamer (same reviewers, same publisher) have an interesting point: They say the game is a bit complicated to play alone (mainly due to stupd AI), easier and more fun to play local co-op. No wonder, as the FF CC series is designed for co-op play. Another point of criticism was that there's no free overworld.

Oh, and two more things:

- You can't play the story mode in co-op.
- You need one game for each player to play the local co-op mode.

Nothing what bothers me, but these two points of criticism and those stated in my previous post led to the Mobile Gamer magazine rating of 75/100 for FF CC:RoF compared to 93/100 for Zelda:PH.

I know, reviews are not everything, but this gives a good indication what to expect.

Some other recommendations which are of course completely different to Zelda, but might be interesting:

- Ace Attorney series (two parts available so far in Germany, best eastern p&c adventures)
- Another Code (Nintendo's eastern p&c adv. with western style, a bit too simple for experienced adv. fans, nice for beginners)
- Undercover: Doppeltes Spiel (best western style point&click adventure so far, very slow gameplay though)
- Ankh: Der Fluch des Skarabäenkönigs (p&c adventure PC port, not released yet, but previews are quite promising)
- Puzzle Quest (very addictive, only problem: the AI is cheating as already stated by other members in other threads)
- Anno 1701 (economic sim/strategy, complex gameplay was transferred from PC to DS surprisingly well, smooth controls)

I would second Prof Layton as my wife loved it. Also I know this is not like Zelda, but has she tried the New Super Mario Brothers? My wife also loved this one.

I've always wondered why, with all the Halo-clones these days, and all the Mario-clones back in the S/NES days, there aren't/weren't more Zelda-clones.

Yes, she played NSMB and liked it. She got till the last world and then Zelda took over. Paired with a slight addiction to Nintendogs, she never got back to it....
