Forums - Nintendo - Help needed: DS game similar to Zelda PH

So my GF finished Zelda: Phantom Hourglass yesterday. She has now successfully finished Minish Cap, Link to Past and Phantom Hourglass. Since she has no other games left to play, she expressed the wish to get a new game similar to the Zelda games she likes. After scanning at IGN quickly, I have no cleaqr cut favorite. There is no Illusion of Gaia or some such game which would fit her taste perfectly. Some Square games seem to be interesting. But like I said, no clear cut favorite.

I would appreciate any help and opinion you guys can offer. A game similar to the Zelda series which is of high quality and for the DS (maybe GBA would be acceptable).

Thanks

consoles are out of the question, as she solely plays handheld games, except for wii sports and wii play, which she also likes...

Maybe Ring of Fates is the closest, but I don't really know how it plays...

I would not buy Children of Mana, that one is similar in some ways, but extremely boring.

Two games that are quite different from Zelda, but have some things in common and are great to play would be Lunar Knights and the two Castlevania games.

There are not too many games close to Zelda it seems...

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

Get Chocobo Tales for DS. She'll already feel familiar with moving you character with the stylus, and it has a decent adventure filled with very inventive minigames and some good card battling.

yes, that was amongst the very small selection of possible titles. I think she would love chocobos. How is the card battle system? Intuitive?

FFIII would be too hard, as it said in the review from IGN.

what does she like about the zeldas?

the dungeon crawling? the exploration? interacting with villagers? the fact that you swing a sword/shoot an arrow/throw a boomerang rather than simply select a magic spell to cast?

if u can figure out what about them she likes, u'll be able to find a match easier

Bets:Missed by 420k I bet leo-j vg$500 that wii will sell 31 million by 7/31/08.  Sorry, I don't think he has enough vg$ to make it with all of u that wish you could. Hit, with room to spare I bet kingofwale a 1-week ban that wii Americas ltd sales>360 Americas ltd sales as of the numbers for week ending 7/05/08 (using vgchartz homepage #s)

Ring of Fates again was among the small selection of interesting games. Is it out in Europe yet?

Children of Mana....no thank you from what I read.

I have plenty of Castlevania games and she wont touch them. Lunar Knights again is interesting.

I find it really weird that there arent any good games similar to Zelda on the DS. What happened to the Soul Blazer Triology? Alundra?

I think she likes the Zelda formula: She likes the exploration, the battle, the story, the cute characters and the overall "adventure" feel. She can venture off and collect all treasures for hours on end.

She likes the finding stuff, changing the boat, the story and so on....live from her right now....so I guess what I stated above.

Thats why the nearest I figured would be Action RPG and/ or RPG

The card battle system is easy to understand. It's kept to simply boss fights, so if she doesn't like it, there's not too much to do. If she's a completist she'll like trying to collect every card in the game. The minigames are damn fun and make up the core of the gameplay. Plus having a Chocobo as the main character should pull her "Oh he's so cute" strings easily. I highly recommend it. I also recommend you play it too, especially if you're at all interested in FF. The cards are all based around summons, beasts and villians from the main series.

I know my wife loves professor Layton. She wont give the DS back now. If your GF likes puzzles, stylish locals, stlus movement, and intereacting with locals taht is the game to get.

Ring of Fates is a good choice if she like the hack and slash action adventure element to Zelda.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.
