Interesting how defensive people are about this hobby. I wonder if posters here feel like I've struck a nerve.

Perhaps I have seen you on the road after all...

Or it could be that most of us bike riders have almost been killed countless times by stupid fuckers in cars and there's a good chance that a few of us have been injured by some fucknut who wasn't paying attention. That tends to make people a little testy.

So would you count yourself in that "most of us?"

Yep, got hurt plenty by a dumbfuck who forgot to yield in a left turn. Asshole drove off afterward, too. It wasn't that serious but I was in pain for quite a few days afterward (and it aggravated some broken ribs I had previous to that).

So if you really have been "almost killed countles times" then why do you continue to do it (or do you)?

And as for the person that cited that there are less motorcycle caused accidents that's because there are less motorcycles.

Uh, read the comment again. In multi-vehicle accidents involving a motorcycle, 70% of the time the motorcyclist was not at fault. That says something.

My bad, missed that part.  Still though, I stsand by the most motorcyclists are dumb as fuck.  Also still stand by the whole idea of the original article as just plain stupid.

Obviously if people become defensive when you are ripping on what they love, that means you win the argument . Can you list a few of your personal hobbies so we can list our anecdotal evidence for why it should not be allowed, it is a detriment to society, and only idiots do it?

Oh sure.  My hobbies are sky diving, bungie jumping, and knife juggling.  All very safe I assure you.

Dang.  I can't find any fault on those.  Unless your using dull knives.

So were they dumb fucks because:

  1. they were in a car and obviously a dumbfuck?
  2. they were in a car and are just a dumbfuck so it would have been the same thing had they been on a motorcycle?
  3. the motorcyclist forgot that cars have blindspots?
Remember, generalizing that people who drive cars are fucknuts that don't pay attention is just as bad as calling motorcyclists dumbfucks who can't drive.

Okay, here is my honest question.  Watch all drivers closely as you go home.  Then tell me that all 90% of the drivers on the road aren't bad drivers.  Motorcycles are like spotlighted drivers.  But do me an honest favor and pay attention to all drivers.  And if the majority of the drivers on the road are drivers that you would consider good drivers then we'll have to agree to disagree.  I'm not so much as sticking up for motorcycle riders as they do often due stupid things.  But on my way to work I saw 0 motorcycles drivers and several bad drivers that drove me crazy.  So is this a culture thing (bad driving in the US) or is this a selective thing (only bad drivers purchase motorcycles bc they want to die .)  Because if you honestly give it a shot I think you'll come to conclusion one as I have myself that most drivers are selfish and drive agressively thus putting others in danger.

Er, I don't know about you but I already do look out for bad drivers when I drive.  That's kind of how I stay out of wrecks.

I'm not saying that bad drivers in cars don't exist because they without a do, in fact I generally see a least one idiot on my way home and I only live about a mile or so from work.  The thing is not every person I see in a car is a bad driver while just about everyone I see on a motorcycle. is.

Because the reward outweighs the risk. I don't commute on a bike any more but joyriding just can't be beat.

I wasn't in their blind spot unless their windshield was made of stainless steel. After I laid it down and rolled a bit, the fucker just looked at me and kept driving. I wasn't even speeding or doing anything wrong, they just failed to yield and forced me down on the pavement.

Maybe she was late to work and too busy switching CDs to give a shit that she could have seriously hurt me and did over $1000 damage to my bike.

It got to the point where I wore steel-toed shoes while riding for the explicit reason of kicking cars when they would try to merge right into me. I hope I seriously dented a few car doors after people looked right at me and tried to force me over.
