Out of curiosity... Did anyone see any advertising for this game?

Yes! I saw it on busses.

Where was this?

I didn't see as much as a poster in the GameStop window in my parts!

I think the OP is jumping to conclusions. The game had an okay opening. I'm guessing around 360K physical opening.

Sony likely compensated Capcom for lost sales due to exclusivity. Sony funded this game (or helped in a significant way), they took the risk other going exclusive isnt worthwhile.

If anything, the modest opening might encourage a new release on more platforms. I hope that next game is Street Fighter Alpha 4.

I didn't think Xbox was the hottest platform for fighters...

I know I never felt like the dpad or face buttons were suited to it on my 360.

I honestly think the sales difference would be marginal.

Isn't MK and KI successful on X1? KI community fund tournaments and characters through DLCs.

That's something successful games do imo.

The fact that Fire Emblem Fates outsold Street Fighter V first week in America kinda blows my mind.

It was pretty low key. I think they invested more in IGN for character moveset reveals or tutorial.

MS announced before Xmas Killer Instinct was played actively by over 3 million Xbox One gamers. That was before Season 1 was Januarys Free Games with Gold to. So the Xbox is doing pretty good for fighters this gen. Killer Instinct has become very popular on Xbox. Season 3 launches this month with a graphical enhancement to.

Can't speak for the sales, because I don't think the game has done so bad even if the game didn't chart, but as for OPs premise of Capcom getting bought by Sony, I have to say that I hope it never happens. Capcom games are so awesome, they shouldn't be locked exclusively behind any specific company.

I would say the exact same thing I said in the many many threads about Tomb Raiders poor sales.

1. I am sure Capcom at least had some expectations of poorer sales.
2. Sony money makes this not a normal situation.

So we'll never really know how Capcom truly feels about it. Considering Sony is still committed to funding prize pools for SF tournaments or whatever, in the end, Capcom could still be perfectly ok with the situation. They still see the game as an evolving service, and expect the game to have legs. Whether that turns out to be true or not, is anybodies guess.

As for the question in the OP, it's just deserts. Can't short change gamers like that. I did not buy, because it was clearly not worth $60 to me. I'll buy down the line when the Super Ultra Arcade version is out, or at least the equivalent update if they stick to their guns about never ever ever releasing another version of SFV.

Like I said in another thread, I hope this doesn't put the future of other Capcom fighters in jeopardy. You could have a situation like Sony with SOCOM where they look at disappointing reviews and lower than expected sales and assume the fanbase has moved on, rather than taking the blame themselves for releasing games that were not up to par.

I might be wrong here but I don't think it sells well in the US debut, either. I merchandise at retailers all over a big market and I see shelves loaded with copies all the time. And I don't think Capcom is in that much trouble that they'd have to sell to someone. But if they did I would hope Nintendo would snatch them up. I think they'd do an amazing job with some of their franchises, much more so than MicroSony would. With MicroSony, Mega Man would become a CoD style FPS and RE would become a cinematic bore. Imho anyway.

Capcom expect SFV to sell over 2 million copies.
