They are only part of the same country because they British drew an arbitrary line in the sand and the U.S. redrew it when they helped Hussain establish himself as the nation's leader. There are really three nations within Iraq, and if we ever plan to leave we'll have to trisect the nation based on political affiliations rather than geographical ones (as the British did). |

I remember back "in the day" I argued that there is no way that Iraq had nuclear weapons, the American's knew it (if you look at how the American government treats countries that have nuclear weapons, you'll understand), and it was a mistake to invade Iraq ... With that said leaving Iraq before it is stable will compound that mistake.
For the most part the insurgents are not citizens of Iraq, and they do not represent the views and desires of the citizens of Iraq; they're foreign fighters funded by rogue states and (if successful) they will place a fundamentalist Islamic government in charge of Iraq who will (probably) remove all rights for women, and it is probable that the Kurds would face genocide. At the same time terrorists around the world would be able to recruit at an unprecedented level because Americans are weak and have no stomach for war.
This thread needs to be locked , because it's obvious the op isn't going to reply.

It doesn't matter if it was only recognized as one nation, the Kurds, Sunnis, and Shiites are simply too different in their ways of thinking to simply act as one. We can't get Americans to agree to do that, even, so don't expect others to either. And, also, don't tell anyone "if you didn't fight back, no one would have died." Not only is it untrue n the most basic sense, but it undermines the ideals fo our own nation. We built our country by fighting off people that we saw as oppressors because we didn't want to be used by them, and many Iraqis see us the same way. Barring that, though, you still sound like a jerk since the opposite opinion is equally correct: no one would have died if we didn't invade. Really, trully, you're an asshole if you didn't consider that fact. |
my statement that if nobody fought nobody would have died is simply truth nothing more nothing less. If me and someguy on the street decide not to fight each other nobody gets hurt. no connotations to human nature or right and wrong were implied.
