Yeah, I think we're getting there. I mean...Uncharted 4, Gears 4, Quantum Break, Mirrors Edge...there's some really great looking games coming out this year.

Not juts visuals, though. For me, the trailer above is all about the entire package, from physics, to cloth animation, to dynamically bending foliage (nope, we have not had theat yet, despite some games with bendable plants and such).

That's actually what I mean I say good looking. I mean the whole visual presentation, not just things like texture or model quality. Uncharted 4 has some impressive cloth and hair animation and things of that nature which make the game look much better.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

What bothers me is that games still don't have intelligent AI. Graphics and animations improve while AI stays the same.

At this point the lack of intelligent AI is actually bothering me a lot more than visuals. for RPG's or story based games, we can tout how far said game has gone but the AI to me is what makes the world feel truly alive. If the AI act like a sack of potatoes and do bubcus unless you do something to make therm respond then it's not really a world that's alive. Hell AI in shooters these days are still the same in a way where they have to hide behind cover, pop out to shoot you or maybe run towards you, either way the AI is strictly driven by a one track mindset that they were programmed to follow. I wish for a gen where AI was entirely the focus than mere visuals, we've already reached a point where diminishing returns for visuals have hit a snag. With AI we've hardly gotten very far.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

I feel like FFXV meets or exceeds this gif on all counts except foliage. When I first saw the animations I immediately thought back to this CryEngine demo. Didn't remember that it was from way back in 2009, though!

The Witcher 3 has some really impressive foliage, but I don't think it's on par with this demo. Still super impressive, though.

Personally graphics don't really interest me that much anymore, I am totally into vr now and stuff as leapmotion.

Had a good experience with a friend on stream, basically hanging around with friends in vr but the cool thing was that some had leapmotion and were giving virtually handshakes..

I have an example with this video at 4.53.55 (4 hours 53minutes 55 seconds) http://www.twitch.tv/zimtok5/v/50931416

This is the site of leapmotion: https://www.leapmotion.com

I cant see the girl's hair movement during her run, and I think many games do it already.
Enviroment looks poor compared to lets say Far Cry Primal, W3.
Girl's animations - I think no game do it already, but U4,QB,FFXV looks promising. On other hand, I think the GIF's framerate is really, really low ( at least how I see on this, for me its kinda 20 fps ? ) so maybe we miss some smallest movements in games with better fps.
Lightings looks bad for me - this gen does a huge steap forward already.

I like the idea of the thread, but there is a problem for me - during normal gameplay many gamers, I think including me, simply ignore or miss details like these. Its really enthusiast stuff if u aske me.
The same I can say about latest DF articles - are 1-2 fps drops really that bad to mention in a single akapit ?

Perhaps, but I think a lot of these minor details whilst consciously missed by many, sub-consciously add to the overall atmosphere to the point you would notice a drop in quality if they were suddenly removed. You wouldn't neccessarily know what was taken out, just that something that helped suck you in the game was missing.
