Forums - Gaming - Street Fighter V is more Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash than Splatoon.

In terms of content at launch, which game resembles Street Fighter V the most?

Splatoon. Just enough for... 23 20.35%

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash. Barely Barebones. 66 58.41%

None. The content in SFV is actually fun. 24 21.24%

Total:113

Many people defending SF5 are comparing it to Splatoon, in that is a game with "limited" content at launch that will grow as time progresses, hopefully increasing sales. For some of them is like a type of early access, or Early AAAccess as Jim Sterling, TGFH, calls it. But this "SFV = Splatoon" logic had never felt quite right to me. I coundn't put my finger on why until I saw this vid:

Now, this vid comes from a very small Youtube channel called ActiveGamingLife, but I don't care about the channels popularity. In my very limited and ignorant opinion, the guy nails it. At the end it all comes down to the value proposition offered by the products, and in the case of Street Fighter V, It seems closer to Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash than Splatoon. Of course, value is very subjective and everyone decides where its line resides.

To be honest I haven't tried neither SFV nor MT:US yet, and I have no doubt that both games are fun to play, at least when played with someone else. But I would not buy either of them, because, to me, it FEELS like the value proposition just isn't there. Of course, I think being fun should be the only deciding factor when buying a game, but being barebones can, potentially, spoil the fun. And that is the biggest difference between SFV and Splatoon. There is a point in which the lack of content stop being a simple annoyance and becomes detriment to the enjoyment of the game.

I'm only seeing it from the point of view of a potential custumer that decided to pass on both.

Mario tennis isn't ever going to have anything added to it. Other than a little paid DLC to add a couple characters.

Street fighter is going to have "Free content" added to it over the years. That is very splatoon like.

On top of which they didn't hide single player content, missions, and rewards behind 30 dollar amiibo's.

$30? I've never seen an amiibo that expensive. Other than that you are right SF V will get content eventually whereas Mario Tennis won't get anything anytime soon.

Some of the "free" DLC on SFV was probably planned to be charged for, but the back lash has killed those plans.

Three splatoon characters, all combine were 30. Needed if you wanted to get all the content and missions for each character. Separately it was I think 12 each? So more than 30.

They each had separate challenges "based" on that amiibo character.

Most "DLC" from Amiibos are more like extra goodies. Not needed most of the time, just something nice to have

It was always said to be fully free dlc for ALL characters and modes, don't pull things out of thin air here, please.

I think is probable it was going to be paid before there was any annoucement because is Capcom, but Sony probably spent a few more bucks to override that choice. Thats my theory, yet, I still expect paid dlc eventually if the game keeps underperforming.

Oh please Splatoon launched with just a few maps, in fact I think Street fighter 5 actually has more content.

The only guy who nails it here is this guy.

That is going to have "Free content" added in the future is very Splatoon like indeed. But the content at launch, is it very Splatoon like?

So it was supposed to be paid before the announcement and before Sony came, so you mean, when Capcom was not even doing it?
Please, don't blind hate the thing, Capcom has been very open with how would they deliver the thing since the very beginning, you can call them on something after they do it, not before.
As of now, the game is confirmed to be having all of its meaningful content as new characters and game modes coming for free.

I never said it happened before Sony came. I also said "probable" and "theory". I could imagine it being discused between Capcom executives before being quickly rejected by Sony, which I have to accept have been fair in the DLC department. Maybe Sony stipulated this from the start. My point is that I don't think the desicion for free DLC came from Capcom, and the plans for paid dlc could have been there at some point, MAYBE.

If anything, Splatoon had less at launch.
