In big RPGs, those legions of anonymous NPCs you have to uselessly talk to before finding the few ones that actually will give you new and useful infos.

PS As someone also mentioned enemies, I'll add cliff racers in Morrowind and zombies in Thief series. And the Celestial Watcher in Heretic II, the only boss ever that I couldn't beat without cheating.
